Talking Pompey with steaming

Talking Pompey with steaming

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - now we have a little something extra this summer...

steaming was asked 5 quick questions, this is what they said.

  • What are you expecting from Pompey in the coming season?
As a Pompey fan of 50 years (+) standing, I have learnt not to have high expectations!! Avoiding relegation was always the hope, finishing mid-table (lower half) the expectation, and promotion was always the dream!! Well, we have had a lot of ups and downs, with perhaps 1992 and 1993 full of mixed emotions - losing an FA Cup semi final on penalties and the next year (if I remember correctly) missing out on promotion by one goal!! I do try to be careful with dates - I know Eastneydave will be quick to put me right!!! So now we look forward to our 6th (already?!?) season in the Premiership. The investment in the squad goes on - now with 7 full England internationals in the squad (Crouch has arrived by the time you read this) and maybe 8 if (I think when) SWP arrives. So my expectations are now high, minimum top 6, and give the top four a real scare. I know other clubs are investing too - but so far, I think we are doing the best business. Long live Sacha!!!

  • Uefa cup - are you a fan of us being in this, or are you against it? Either way how well do you reckon we can do?
I am a fan, but only really take interest in any competition when Pompey are in it!! I think we have one preliminary tie before the league stage. Get over that and we can go far. Good heavens, why not, a Scottish club reached the final last year!! I don't know if Rennes are in the Uefa Cup - but if they are I hope we play them. It will take me less time to get there than to Fratton Park!

  • Which 3 players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
Crouch has - an ideal partner for Defoe. SWP will, a magic player when allowed to be. Shame we couldn't get Richard Dunne. We do want another central defender. As much as I admire him, there must be a real question mark over whether Linvoy can hack it at this level after a year out. Hope he does though. Shorey would be a good addition, but I am still a big fan of Herman - and don't we have a chap called Pamarot lurking somewhere.

  • If you had to select 1 player to get shot of - or maybe to rephrase or make this decision easier, 'sacrifice' - to make a signing who would it be and why?
Can't say, because it depends on what we are sacrificing for. But if pushed I would say Kanu. We have a wealth of strikers now. Most with a future. I really hope Nugent gets a chance this season, but I don't see it happening.

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make this season?
Probably about 5 or 6 at Fratton. Those airfares ore crippling!! But in Europe, well France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Benelux countries, Germany - I'll just put the car on the ferry and off we will go. Even Greece, perhaps!! Roll on the European adventure.

Thanks to steaming for answering these.

    PLAY UP POMPEY!

    ==========

That's the lot guys, I have no more of these to offer! So it is down to you now if we want more of these...

Hi steaming. Correct on the dates & info with '92 & '93. Painful memories. Thankfully current times are fantastic & worth the long wait. Keeping flying our flag in Europe.

Nice one Steaming would I pick you up on dates? Only here to help. The article omits the fact that you live in Jersey - just for the newcomers. See you during the season.

    Big Ben returns!

There's no doubting how important Davies is to us, we most definitely missed the former Sheffield United man against Orient but Cook's confirmed he'll start against Bristol Rovers.

    Winning over the fans

Cook feels he still has to 'win over a proportion' of the fans at Pompey?

Tubbs surprised...in a way he has a point

5-goals in a combined total of 8-matches isn't a bad return is it so having made his move to Eastleigh this week I get Tubbs' point at his surprise Cook wasn't selecting him.

Pompey Predictions League - update no.28

The Pompey predictions league is very much part of this site now! This continued with a defeat to Orient last Saturday.
