Crouch finally re-signs for Pompey?

Nothing 'official' has been confirmed but The Mail Online is reporting that we have finally been successful in our quest to sign Peter Crouch from Liverpool!

The reports say 'a deal that will be confirmed when the Football Association offices open on Monday morning' will cost us £10m for the England man who is 'in jubilant mood' having found out the news?

As I say this is not 'official', so until an official announcement is made - hopefully on Monday as suggested - I will not be completely satisfied, but this said I have no doubts that he is coming back, as I have said plenty of times over the weeks and months...

Would be a good signing for you, have never understood why he didn't get more games for Liverpool

Come on! Goes to show what an attractive proposition we are now when players the calibre of Defoe, Crouch etc etc look to us to ressurect England careers.

I really want him to stay, no one outside of LFC really understands how good he is, i have no idea how were going to replce him, he deserved to play more for us, well our loss is your gain, always gonna have a place for crouch.

mate i know how good he is, i really do hence we ive been so desperate for this to come off - too many see him as just 'a big man' but there is much more to his game, and him as a player, those that dont know will know this season...

If Adebayor is worth 30 million, then one would have to think Crouch is worth 15-20 million as there is not that much difference in both players ability. So 10 million would have to be good buying on todays market. Some may think there are as good or better buys for 10 million but that aside I would consider Crouch good value.

Didn't want to see him leave last time so i will welcome him back with open arms.

frattonaussie -- i think although i see why u think crouch could be worth 15-20, i think your val is flawed by thinking adebayor is worth 30 - which I think is a little "toppy". crouch at 10 is kinda the max he is worth. i thought 8 wouldve been good but were starting to realise as a club (as you do in football manager) if you want a player who the respective other club dont necessarily NEED to sell then they will overinflate price, we will come underinflated, and will meet in the middle (its called haggling). i thought they would accept 9 but they were in a better position to sell and forced to get 1 more out of us. at 10 i think its still a good piece of business though =) and i agree ... service a la SWP sil' vous plait =)

Great news... as some of you know I had a call last night (before it broke in the papers) from my 'Harry Source' to say it's a done deal and as Rug has commented it wil be anounced when the FA open on Monday... Pompey will have two o England strikers playing togther next season.. which can only be good for them, Pompey and England I hope...

Pessimist. I don't think Adebayour is worth anything like 30 million but according to many reports that is the offer that has been made for him not just the price that is wanted for him. I am basing my comments on that price as personally I think Adebayour is only worth marginally more than Crouch but it is not my money being offered. The reports say the Crouch deal is about 8.5 million up front and the rest later. Also, again from reports, we are trying to negotiate a smaller upfront fee for SWP with payments that could amount to 10 million to come later. Again good value if Storrie can do it. Other information coming through is that Shorey, Edu and Kaboul are also on the way to Portsmouth with the deals having already been done and Kanu to sign a 1 year deal this coming week. I admit I did not think Kanu and Crouch would agree to be in the same team.

I am the odd one out as I do not see The "Little & Large" act working. The midfield will suffer if Utaka and Kranjcar are retained. Did Rug get caught unaware with this signing?

you are kidding 007 right? Crouch will be heading balls right into the path of Defoe from day one and equally Crouch with those long limbs of his will be knocking in Defoe's rebounds, Kanu style - mark my words.

if he joins we r gunna be class (we already r) but defoe and crouch is gunna rip the other teams defence up.We will have defoe , crouch , nugent , kanu , utaka as strikers but only if swp joins i will be over the moon cuz we will score each game with defoe , crouch and swp in the side

I like Chix's point about sorting out the blend in pre-season. The advantage of getting signings early is just that. Later signings miss that crucial time of acclimatisation. Crouch and Defoe will know each other from their England days together but club football is a different game. HR has managed hem both before but at different clubs, so there is work to be done in moulding them into the partnership that will terrorise premier league defences as well as European too.

According to Goal.com, Crouch was so adamant about coming to Pompey that he turned down moves elsewhere ( I would think this almost certainly means Newcastle, who went on to buy Guttierez instead ) and threatened to run down the year remaining on his contract if he wasn't allowed to come to us. It's nice that he's coming at last, but it's even nicer that he's coming because he really wants to play here.

I really, really hope this is true. I know some people think Crouch is over-rated but I have always thought he has been under-rated throughout his career. His critics can't seem to get past the fact that he is freakishly tall. However, athough his height is a great advantage he is also very skillful with it. I thought the Crouch - Defoe partnership that we saw for Engand against Trinidad and Tabago was a mouth-watering taste of what he (hopefully) have to look forward to next season. Bring it on!!!
