'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Extra allocation to disabled supporters at Fratton

To be honest, as much as I love Portsmouth Football club we have been mentioned in the past as being among the clubs offering the least amount of space to our disabled supporters, so the news that we have increased this for the new season is fantastic news.

This is what the Pompey Site has said on this issue...

PLAY UP POMPEY!

==========

MORE SEATS FOR DISABLED SUPPORTERS

More disabled fans than ever will be able to enjoy watching Pompey at Fratton Park.

The club has created nine extra spaces for wheelchair users and their carers in the Fratton End.

But this couldn't have happened without the support of some very understanding season ticket holders, who agreed to be relocated to other areas of the stand.

This expansion of this area means Fratton Park can accommodate up to 50 disabled supporters, including five spaces for visiting fans.

Allison McNeil, Pompey's disabled liaison officer, said: 'It's great news for our fans.

'We want to make football at Fratton Park more accessible to all of our supporters, regardless of their physical condition.

'This is another sign of the continued progress that is being undertaken at Portsmouth Football Club.'

This is good news. The facilities and Wembley for disabled were superb. A special area in mid stand with agreat view rather than ground level where fans have to duck to avoid the ball during the warm up.

50 doesn't sound a lot but at least the number is going in the right direction. I wonder how we compare to other top premier league clubs

Well done to all concerned, very easy to forget those less fortunate than ourselves.

ummm...... Shall I be controversial.. yeah why not. I'll say just this. I sincerely hope that the extra 9 spaces go to people who are truly disabled and not those who claim an 'orange badge' just because they can... and before you berrate me i know of two ro three instances where people I know have been offered an 'orange badge' by their doctor because of their age.

Are you suggesting that being old is not a disability Chix? lol Not what I heard.

In a more serious note though it is good to see Pompey doing something like this, lets hope that all the staff are DDA trained as well though!
sneakay
Agree Sneakay it one thing providing the space another knowing how to deal with the disabled ... That said I spent a season just behind the disabled section at the Fratton End and they are well looked after,.. sounds patronising but not meant that way ..
