Talking Pompey with Chix

Talking Pompey with Chix

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - now we have a little something extra this summer...

Chix was asked 5 quick questions, this is what they said.

  • What are you expecting from Pompey in the coming season?
I'm unrealistically expecting every player who pulls on a Pompey shirt to play his heart out and run his socks off for 90 minutes every Saturday, no matter how talented he is. There were times last season when (despite our form) 'my team' looked like a group of overpaid and uninterested individuals who couldn't give a toss about anything other than themselves... (A few exceptions perhaps).

In as much as league position? First priority for me will always be 40 points and safety, then top 10 and maybe/hopefully a decent cup run. - I'd rather finish a proud & passionate 17th than a complacent and arrogant 6th.

  • Uefa cup - are you a fan of us being in this, or are you against it? Either way how well do you reckon we can do?
Yep I'm a fan of us being in the UEFA Cup, because it'll be good for the club and we'll hopefully attract a few 'bigger' names because of it.... But and it's a 'BIG BUT'.... It really hacked me off when we were heading towards our famous Wembley victory in May when all the talk seemed to be of winning the Cup Final in order to get into Europe. To me the ultimate prize was winning the Cup itself, not getting into Europe. I'm not sure the non-British players saw it that way and seeing Kranjcar, Kanu, Muntari et-al draped in their national colours rather than a Pompey scarf or flag as they collected their medals just made me even more cynical about the motivation of (certain members of) our current squad i.e. being Croatian, Nigerian or whatever and playing in the 'shop window' that is Europe seemed more important than playing for Pompey and winning the FA Cup.

How well we do I don't really care as long as our premiership form doesn't suffer ... but the group stages would be good... beyond, even better.

  • Which 3 players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
I'd like to see a few players come in who are not afraid to roll their selves up and graft for the cause. Harry has stated that he wants, 'premiership experience' he's even been quoted as identifying the three positions that he need filling, Left Back, Right Midfield and a Striker - How about Matt Taylor, Gary O'Neil and Benjani all players who would wear the Pompey blue with pride and probably die for the club... Can anybody argue that an ageing Viking, and two lazy Nigerian's will serve us any better than the three mentioned?

  • If you had to select 1 player to get shot of - or maybe to rephrase or make this decision easier, 'sacrifice' - to make a signing who would it be and why?
No need to rephrase - I'd get shot of Richard Duffy. Why we keep him I'll never know and surely if he was gonna be any good Harry would have played him by now. Including internationals he's played nearly 100 first team games since joining Pompey... but only one was for us (and I think that was as a sub). He's taken a squad number for three and a half years and done nothing apart from go on loan.

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make this season?
All but one (Wife's friend getting married!) in all comps at 'home'. Probably none 'away', unless we get a plum tie in one of the cups.

Thanks to Chix for answering these.

That's the lot guys, I have no more of these to offer! So it is down to you now if we want more of these...

If anyone else wants to answer the questions simply drop me an email as a request, or with your answers on and/or visit this link and I will make it happen.

Nice one Chix; Pride is more than half the battle and I woke up this morning thinking Benji could make a return. Wouldn't that be great.

Nice one Chix - first question, do you really believe any Redknapp team could be arrogant? Yes for isome ndividuals but the team?
    03/07/2008 08:33:00
What a courageous, magnificent response. Chix I agree 100%, I thought I was alone. Gosh even my arthritis feels better after that dialogue.
    03/07/2008 08:33:00
second q. I'd take Matty and Benji back in a second, GON's goal record puts me off him I'm afraid. Yesterday btw, TalkSport had a long interview with one of Sparky's back room boys and he said Hughes' first priority is restoring balance back to the squad, and he specifically mentioned the 13 yes 13 strkers they now have and how they needed to move some on. Any chance of Benjani bouncing back?
    03/07/2008 08:37:00
I know everyone loves him, but lets be honest with ourselves and say that Benji is not going to be coming back! At least once every week someone will mention, do you think benji will come back. It's time to move on people.

Great article Chix, although I would expect nothing less.

Chix not only omnipresent but now a miracle healer (007s arthritis). Great stuff I will write mine promise before the season is over. Missread last paragraph though and thought it said my wife is getting married!!
    03/07/2008 14:14:00
Hey Chix - Omnipresent, Gorgeous, Greedy and a Miracle Healer - it just goes on and on..... Good article - and yes, we need players who are going to work.

    Chaplin secured

Chaplin had a contract with Pompey until 2018 but ahead of the disappointing Notts County defeat he extended his contract with the Blues until 2019.

    Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!

Match highlights - Pompey 1-2 Notts County

What a disappointment that was! The 1st half wasn't bad, in fact large chunks of it were good but the 2nd half was just woeful with a soft centred Pompey beaten 2-1 by Notts County.
