'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Now its time for things to kick off!

Peter Storrie and Harry Redknapp have told us repeatedly what their plans are as far as summer transfers go, now it is just about the time for these words to be followed up with actions...

We were 'promised' 3 top class signings this summer, and although I am not in the slightest bit concerned that they have not arrived just yet we are entering the kind of time frame that we set out to have these sorted by, or at least starting to be sorted by.

Glen Little and Ben Sahar are 2 good signings for me, and are a good starting point but they are not the 'top class' signings we have been told about - with all due respect to both, who as I say I think are good signings, I would at least hope not!

We are back for the start of pre-season training next week so if what we have been told holds true I would hope that the Peter Crouch's, the Shaun Wright-Phillips', the Nicky Shorey's and the like will soon start arriving so we can start bedding them in ahead of the new season.

As said I am not concerned that no 'major signings' have yet been revealed, as I am sure these will happen, and said only last week that I had a feeling we would sign at least 2 players this week - we have 1 in the shape of Sahar so I would not be surprised if another, and my tip would be either Crouch - who I really do believe is a near certainty - or Shorey arrived by the end of the week.

I would certainly hope that our main targets have arrived, or at least have started to arrive by the time we head off to Africa for our pre-season friendlies in Nigeria and the training camp in South Africa that follows, ideally by the time the pre-season friendlies kick off full stop.

The 'major' deals will start to happen shortly I am sure, and once again I cannot stress enough we should not be worried that they have not already, but now it is time for actions to start speaking louder than words isn't it guys!

So, how are we feeling about the way things will go in the coming week - are we confident that the main targets will arrive, or at least start to arrive? As always share your thoughts...

Crouch does look ever more likely, I agree. Liverpool's latest offer for Barry has been rejected, and they'd dearly love to sign David Bentley ( in which case perhaps Jermaine Pennant might be a second bet if SWP isn't available? ) Either way, Liverpool badly need the cash, so I don't see them holding out if we make a sensible offer now. I think Nicky Shorey would probably bite HR's hand off if he was asked, but I can see that transfer dragging on a while. I've a feeling Harry will hold onto his cash until he gets a clearer picture of who's going to be available before he buys anyone other than Crouch.

Don't panic guys, we have not always signed in the early Summer. There is still plenty of time to bring 'em in, especially if no one else wants them !!

Man City signed striker JO today. He isn't the type of player that will work with Benji. Will this mean that Benji is now superceded at Man City as, from the players they have indicated they are interested in, this would seem possible. I hope HR makes the enquiry and tries to bring Benji back to Pompey if possible.

Benji and Defoe, yum, yum.

I'm going to hazard a guess that we end up signing at least one player in the LAST ten seconds of the transfer window....it seems to be the Pompey way! Not panicking yet by any means though.

Crouch is as good as done. I dont have connections with the club, i dont know the brother-in-law of the sister whose uncle plays tennis with storries son, but i do have a distant link thats been quite reliable on many matters (that i have not published as i dont like the "I know something but i cant say" senarios...etc). Anyway i digress. I have been told, this morning that Pompey and Liverpool have agreed a fee, which involves a price and a sell on fee (Normal practice nowadays i think). Crouch apparently also expressed his dislike for joining Spurs, so thats another one in the eye for the spuds. Now lets just see how long Pompey take to announce it, as i sometimes think a deal is done, and shelved so that media are busy speculating, whil Pompey get on with the next deal. They then announce it, when media get too close on next deal in hand (If you get my drift). Either way, i look forward to the return of Pompey Rodney.
Midge
Midge I hope your right, so Crouch will be unveiled tomorrow!

Good news though now that Storrie has come out and said that the transfers are likely to be completed in the next 2 weeks!

So we have upped it to £10m for Crouch, alledgedly. Liverpool may hold out for more. This Barry saga where they are wanting £18m is daft. We nearly got him for £6m 2 seasons ago. I wish had then, let alone now. The barcodes, Citeh & Chelski have announced major signings so the trickle has started. No doubt the gush will come soon. Hoping for quality over quantity.

Dont you just LOVE getting one over on SPUDS... and then another.... and then anaother... Crouch coming, Diarrra saying No Ta, and Kaboul begging to come here over them..... lol... haaa haaah hahahahahaha ha ha ahhhh haa i cant help laughing at em lol... SORRY! got carried away
Midge
Midge - we haven't heard from you for ages and ages. Where have you been? The news you have is excellent - can't wait for official confirmation. I have always thought that 10m would buy Crouch. Lets all have a disco - lets all have a disco - la la la la - ignore me - I have just returned from a very drunken night out!

Crouch, SWP, a decent left back (Shorey, if possible) and a veteran controlling midfielder with top notch passing ability. I've no doubt they'll get it done and without dropping a ridiculous 9 million pounds on a grown man who does spiderman impressions whenever he scores.....good grief !
