'If It's Football, It's Vital'

4 is the magic number...

Pompey will kick off the 2008/09 season with 4pts out of the opening 9 available, not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompey4me's poll are fair enough - although given my positive, some might say 'blinkered' thinking, most of the time I reckon we will get more!

We open the new season with a trip to Chelski, followed by Manyoo at Fratton then Everton away, so to get 4 out of 9pts would not represent a bad return really would it as that would mean 1 defeat from 3, so looking at who we face would you really be that disappointed with a return like that?

I am not expecting this to happen, but do feel that we can achieve an unbeaten start.

We are owed something at Chelski, so if we play as well as we did this season at Stamford Bridge as we did the last then we can get at least a point, I reckon we can win but then again I might be overly optimistic... Manyoo never like coming to our place, so why should we not pick up all 3pts from that, a point minimum must has to be the target! If we want to achieve a higher league position this time round than we did the last we must start beating the sides in and around us regularly, so going to Everton and winning would be a good start!

Yep, there is no reason why we should not come out of these games unbeaten, if we believe we can get something from Chelski we can - our problem against the likes of Chelski however is that we often go in with the mentality of 'no one expects us to get anything, so if we pick up something it is a bonus', maybe so but this kind of thinking is not what I want us to have, and to be honest why should we?

All this said I would not be unhappy with 4pts, but my own target will be at least 5pts from the opening 9 on offer...

What the poll asked - Tough start, Chelski (a) Man U (h) Everton (a). How many points will we get from these 3?

How you voted - 4 22%, 9 18%, 2 16%, 3 13%, 0 11%, 1 8%, 5 7%, 6 3%, 7 2%

Current Poll - A lot of opinions have been shared on who disappointed last season, particularly in the past week of so with the 'talking to' series.

But just who did disappoint the most last season from those that arrived - this is what pentonpompey wants to know with this - 'Most disappointing signing of 2007/8?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

Tough first 3 & the next 3 games arn't going to be walk in the park either. Yes we are a good team & no doubt those we have to play will fear us. However last season (it only counts for so much I know) the same 6 games, saw us lose 5 & draw 1. So we need an improvement on that!!!

I hear ya on the improvement needed Matt, hopefully the big guns will take a while to get their act together as normal...and I remain optimistic as we usually seem to be quick out of the blocks.
Tantona
Matt is right on the start and the only point we took off Manure!!!
eastneydave
Very tough start to the season, but to be honest there are not too many easy games any more.
sneakay
Not wishing to be negative just a bit realistic. We could be bottom 3 by the end of September, I doubt it, but we could be bottom 8. No need to panic is also what I want to say.
storagematt
I 'blindly' voted for 5 points... Unbeaten after these games, yes please!
pompey4me
5pts is what im aiming for aswell mate - why shouldnt we aim for that? keep expectations grounded, but is that really wanting too much...
pompeyrug
I went for three and then wondered where they were gonna come from... One win or three draws... maybe even that is pushing it. Just hope we give a good account of ourselves and work hard to win... even if we don't. A few (or more) players need to stand up and counted this season if we are to build on last year.

I voted for four, but then thought to myself that maybe it was not so likely. I feel though that we could beat Chelsea and get a draw against Manure, or maybe the other way round?
sneakay
All very tough. If any of them are not ready we could pinch a few points. If we ain't ready then we'll get blown away. Time to hit the floor running.
storagematt
not very optimistic chaps, or do you put it down to fans from other sires voting?
