Talking Pompey with UKTony

Talking Pompey with UKTony

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - now we have a little something extra this summer...

UKTony was asked 5 quick questions, this is what they said.

  • What are you expecting from Pompey in the coming season?
It would be nice to say "more of the same" but more pragmatically, I'd like everyone to play to their potential and for the team as a whole to play attractive football. A top 10 finish would be nice plus decent progress in each cup. What I'd really like, but don't expect to get, is a recognition from the media that we are a consistent threat to "the big four" rather than "a team who did rather well last year".

  • Uefa cup - are you a fan of us being in this, or are you against it? Either way how well do you reckon we can do?
Huge fan. Like cup matches, it's a chance to pit your wits against someone different and enjoy the possibility of saying "I was there". I reckon we'll get as far as the group stages; anything beyond that will be a pleasant surprise.

  • Which 3 players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
Dunne; I think we need to be realistic about Sol Campbell's chances of lasting a whole season. Someone up front to partner Defoe. Crouch keeps being mentioned and I think he'd do well if we got SWP as well.

  • If you had to select 1 player to get shot of - or maybe to rephrase or make this decision easier, 'sacrifice' - to make a signing who would it be and why?
Utaka - no question. A constant disappointment.

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make this season?
I reckon 15 ish home league games plus Arsenal and Fulham away (family ticketing arrangements permitting). At least one UEFA game (2 if we are at home in the first match) plus perhaps 2-3 others. Say about 20 in total? More if finances, timings and the wife allow.

Thanks to UKTony for answering these.

    PLAY UP POMPEY!

Nice one Tony. It would be nice to get some recognition from the press, but I reckon we may need to demonstrate more consistency before that happens.

Sod the press, the only people that give us credit is Sky Sports. Hi Tony, don't let the wife stop you from going to see Pompey. LOL.

Hi Tony, Good answers mate. I totally agree with the entertaining football. We used to be renowned for it, it's why Sky liked having us on the live games so often. But I suppose you have to reign in a little for success. Can't do a KK with no plan B or defence for that matter!

Sod the press? The more positive coverage we get, the easier it becomes to get quality players.

Cheers all. My thoughts on the three to sign are looking a bit thin aren't they.

Plymouth moved to the top - they'll battle with Doncaster & Portsmouth to be crowned Champions. It looks as if Hartlepool will join Leyton Orient in Non-League.

    Video - Mansfield 0-1 Pompey

Well, it'll go down to the wire as Pompey's win at Mansfield means the Blues, third, can still win the title ahead of (now) leaders Plymouth and Doncaster.
