Talking Pompey with pentonpompey

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - now we have a little something extra this summer...

pentonpompey was asked 5 quick questions, this is what they said.

  • What are you expecting from Pompey in the coming season?
In all honesty another top ten finish, a run in one of the cups would do as well. I imagine quite a few on the site will be moaning if we don't make the top 4, win the UEFA, the FA Cup and make it at least to the semi's of the Carling. Progression nice and slowly will do me nicely.
Oh! and news on a start date for the new stadium.

  • Uefa cup - are you a fan of us being in this, or are you against it? Either way how well do you reckon we can do?
I think it will have a detrimental effect on our campaign. But now we're in it we have to give it a go. If we don't make it in again next year I expect a mass exodus.
I don't see us making much headway, it being our maiden forage. I am far more concerned about the Prem.

  • Which 3 players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
Crouchie, I thought he was class when he was with us last time.
SWP, we need his guile and ability to provide and feed off Defoe and Crouch.
Anyone of ability for the back.

  • If you had to select 1 player to get shot of - or maybe to rephrase or make this decision easier, 'sacrifice' - to make a signing who would it be and why?
Utaka, no doubt about it at all, 1 cross in the final can never make up for tens of thousands of pounds wasted in wages on this imbecile

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make this season?
10 if work and or family allow me.

Thanks to pentonpompey for answering these.

    PLAY UP POMPEY!

Good answers PP. Whilst we concern ourselves, naturally about things on the pitch, we must put our time & energy where possible with the new ground. Too many nimbies & miniority groups have too much to say. We must be heard.

I'm hoping Utaka will follow Kranjcars' lead and have a strong second season, he should of settled by now
    paultsmouth
Thing is, at least Krunchi showed some sort of attitude in his first year. Utaka aint never gonna make it unless he changes his attitude first. A bit of effort, thats all we ask.
    pompey4me
Good answers Penton. It does seem like most of us are on the same page when it comes to Pompey.
    sneakay
Come on guys, there could be a thousand reasons why Utaka is inconsistent - he has the abilty that's for sure, probably the most skillful player we have. Who knows? Perhaps there is something off field that has troubled him - Remember, I think we all agreed that thankfully it wasn't Utaka who was one on one with the United keeper in the Quarter final, Utaka would have left him for dead and scored - and it would have remained 11 v 11....

gr8 answers bt 1 thing ur actually expecting a start date 4 the new stadium nxt season i really wouldn't gt ur hopes up =) other than tht like Sneakay said gd to c most of us r on the same page
    pompeym@
while i think bout it have any of u heard the rumours bouts spurs bidin £15 mil 4 crouchie and yossi so it doesn't look like we'll gt crouch this time then :(
    pompeym@
Good answers i definatly with on Utaka hes got a lot to do this season
    sea-juicer
Thank you lads, I thought i'd get a little more stick as i was having one of those days when I wrote it. pompeym@, I have seen that today, also Arsenal are reported to be interested in Crouch. I can imagine he'd go to either over us. Spuds is where he started isn't it?
    pentonpompey
Nice stuff PP. Not too keen on Utaka then?
    eastneydave
In fairness Dave when I saw him score that goal against Bolton I thought we'd found a true star. Trouble is he just doesn't seem to want to work at it. Lets be fair I any of us spent 9 months being that unproductive we'd be looking over our shoulders, waiting for our P45's.
    pentonpompey
Wait till my talking pompey! It's fair to say I think the bloke is a waste of a shirt! Chris, Utaka isnt just inconsistent, he can't be bothered! That in it's self in inexcusable. If you or I displayed this lack of conviction at work, as pentonp says above, we'd be sacked (and I'm self employed!)
    pompey4me
yeah Simon, I know that's your view and I am dumbfounded as to why he acts as he does - but that doesn't change the fact he could be our best player - somehow we need to unlock that potential, that's all I'm saying.
    ChrisW
But how do you unlock potential (which I conceed he has) If he keeps it so locked up? The guy is on tens of thousands of £'s a WEEK, is that not enough to get his juices flowing? Surely he can see what the feelings like to score, or even set up the winner in the FA cup final, so why does he flatter to deceive every week?
    pompey4me
seems to be the same at a lot of clubs though , overseas players comming into the premiership are the same once they have a contract & thousands each week in wages they seem to think thats their job sorted & only play when they feel like it
    sea-juicer
Thats a fair comment Rob, The game on this side of the Channel is so different to the Continent. We demand effort for 90mins every week regardless.
    pentonpompey
Not much to ask for, a bit of effort, is it.
    pompey4me
Seems to be from Nigerians though don't it ... Kanu, Utaka, The Yak... does anybody see a pattern forming ?
