Crouch bid rejected?

Crouch bid rejected?

The Daily Mail Online is reporting that we have had an offer for Peter Crouch rejected by Liverpool...

If true, this would explain why Harry Redknapp had today said that a deal might not happen as much as he wanted it too as Liverpool were 'asking too much' for the England man.

The report says that we 'wanted to pay £7m up front with the rest in extras' - with these extras seeing the final fee rise to a 'reported' £9m.

As we all know Crouch is out of contract next summer, so would be able to arrange a free transfer for that summer in January, or move on right away with the price likely to drop dramatically - but that could be a risky game to play, so if we, or anyone else want him it needs to be now really...

It is no secret that I want him to come back to Fratton, but at the end of the day we have to stick by our guns - if we do not want to pay anymore than x amount, we will not will we.

Although I reckon a straight up offer of £8.5m or thereabout could well do the trick...

Thoughts as ever guys - if we have seen this offer rejected do you think we will improve it or is this deal now dead?

It'll be interesting to see what happens and in some respects it'll depend on how much (if any) he feature in Liverpools plan for next season and who else is interested. If this is an opening gambit then I think we'll end up getting him for say £8m up front, but if it's a take it or leave it then I reckon its a dead duck

I really would like to see it happen. There's still a long way to go and I think Liverpool are waiting to see if there are other offers. I would rate him at 10 mill. We are an attractive club at the moment and if we are ever going to get strikers like Crouch now is the time. Defoe is a classy player but a blind man could see how effective Crouch could be for any team in the Prem.

Strange that the Daily Mail is reporting that Liverpool rejected a bid for Crouch, the Liverpool Echo says that there has been no contact between Liverpool and Portsmouth over him, wither it's formal or otherwise.

Hey JohnDoe do you have a wife named Jane. Some Body must know you !! Crouch for 9M I say.

I hopeful we will get him if the player himself wants to come.

Harry is currently a real dogs testicles manager and I feel that most people would want to play for him. Crouchie has done so twice already so, as long as things went well then, and I think Crouchie has a lot to thank Hal for, I think he would see a move to 'Three England Players already' Pompey as ideal. I hope the deals not dead I really want him at Fratton. A bit of heading practice and we have a 35 goals per season partnership.

We'll get him for 8m. at the end of the day Liverpool want Silva to partner Torres up front and apparenately they have got 20m to spend, plus whatever funds they get from selling. Got 4m for Rise and thats it so far. They will definately sell Crouch as they clearly don't want him, and although they want more there aren't that many teams banging the door down for him. Of course plenty would like him, but not that many are prepared to put the money where the mouth is. Think we are and thats why Harry will get his man. Friday press conference looming??

When has the Daily Mail been accurate about anything?
24/06/2008 09:15:00
Whereas the Liverpool Echo is rarely wrong. Their sports writers are very close to the club. This isn't dead yet
