Talking Pompey with sneakay

Talking Pompey with sneakay

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - now we have a little something extra this summer...

Sneakay was asked 5 quick questions, this is what they said.

  • What are you expecting from Pompey in the coming season?
I hope that we can keep up the momentum from winning the FA Cup. I would like to see us push for a top 6 finish in the league as the main priority, but also have a go at having good cup runs as well. Defending the FA Cup sounds great, and it would be good to get at least to the quarter finals if not further. The UEFA cup is going to be new to us and fairly difficult I think, but if we can get past the first group stage I think I will be satisfied.

  • Uefa cup - are you a fan of us being in this, or are you against it? Either way how well do you reckon we can do?
I am a fan of this as it is huge that Portsmouth have made Europe for the first time. As I mentioned before I think if we get past the first group stage I will be happy. We should be able to hold our own at Fratton, but going away to wherever may be a bit too much for us this season. Saying that though we have a fair bit of experience in the squad, and with a couple more players who knows.

  • Which 3 players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
I for one am not that bothered by any particular player that has been 'linked' to us so far. I do think Crouch, SWP and Dunne would all do a great job for us, but there are others that could also do the same job. I would still love Kanoute to come to us, but don't think that will happen. I think Mattos could be a great player, but that has gone quiet and Gutierrez would also be handy.

  • If you had to select 1 player to get shot of - or maybe to rephrase or make this decision easier, 'sacrifice' - to make a signing who would it be and why?
I would have to let one of the three central midfield trio go of Hughes, Davis or Mendes. It would be a very tough choice but I think they all deserve to be playing more often than they do, and if we signed Mattos then maybe two would leave. My initial choice would be Davis though, as he would probably sell for a better price.

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make this season?
As many as possible! Not being a season ticket holder and working quite often on Saturday's to afford tickets means that I cannot predict what games I will make. My aim though is to see the teams that I have not seen play before, and also go to grounds that I have not been to before.

Thanks to sneakay for answering these.

Yep, good stuff sneakay. I'd hate to see any of those 3 midfielders go tbh. As you davis would fetch a fee, but we need these players as strength in depth. Afraid I don't know enough about the foreign players you mention, but one thing is for sure, 'arry is RARELY wrong. you'll have to wait for my answers to see what I mean.....

Very good Sneakay. Although I do worry about the wage bill for all those players we need for the UEFA cup. Also, if we are going to get the extra players, then I would like us to go further than the first round, as we need to keep them all busy.

great stuff sneakay - still not convinced by the kanoute thoughts tbh, had we got him last summer it would have worked, but he's a year older now - but his price 'should' have dropped...

Picking up on your top 6 comment Sneakay - don't you think we were effectively top 6 this year? We only took 1 point from the last 15 and we know why that was ..

Good reply's Sneakay, There's now't to disagree with except Sean Davis, but even then you're right he would attract a decent price...Good player though! Gandor brings up the point about keeping all these players busy! The higher you get dosen't make it any easier, does it?

    An unexpected visitor

Pompey's Burgess was clearly at a loose end when the game at Crawley was postponed. That much was initially obviously with the level of desire to be involved in footie later revealed.

Cook - no need for a prolific marksman

Cook has said Pompey's lack of a 25 goal striker - I still think we have one - isn't going to impact on our promotion chances. I can see both sides of Cookie's opinion here to be fair.
