Mendes aware of interest/Kaboul bid launched

Mendes aware of interest/Kaboul bid launched

Pedro Mendes had admitted that he is aware of interest in him from Mallorca and in particularly Sporting, but insists that he is happy to stay with us: 'I know of any movements but, still, I've been in Portsmouth two years and it is basically the decision of my club.

'I am happy at Pompey.

'However, it is also an attractive and major project in Sporting and playing in the Champions League.'

Mendes has always appeared a man of honour, so if he says he will honour his contract if asked I am sure that he will - there should be no reason that we would want to sell him anyway, as I maintain my thoughts that he is still one of the best midfielders we have, and one of the best of his type around.

All being well he will stay, and indeed play more next season as he always brought the best out of Lassana Diarra when he played alongside him...

==========

Some of you may have seen what Vital Spurs had to say earlier - but if not as reported over there it is 'claimed' by the papers today that Harry Redknapp has launched a £2m bid for Younes Kaboul.

Whilst I have no doubt that we could get him if we really wanted him - and I really am coming round to the idea of signing him, as despite a difficult season with Spurs last year he is a very talented youngster - if we got him that cheaply I would be as amazed as Spurs fans would be disappointed at such a price...

His value has varied from anywhere between £2m and £5m this summer - according to the papers anyway!

As ever guys, thoughts on all the above is appreciated...

Happy for Mendes to what is best for him. Great if he stays & wish him all the best & a huge thank you when he goes. As for Kabull. If HR wants him & it's a sensible price why not?

Medes is a cheat I'm afraid... he got Trotter sent of in the FA Cup. But, Kaboul, well, that would be a decent signing. There is no doubt he is quality, it is just up to Redknapp to try and bring it out of him.

Mendes staying would be great. I think everyone agrees on that one. I am not sure on Kaboul, maybe his awful season has put blinkers on me? £2mill though is a good price for a young premiership defender.

If we are going to bring anyone in from Spuds, would like it to be Huddlestone. Picks out a great pass although accept has fitness concerns.

2 million that would be well worth the risk, Trotter was a poor tackle he caught Mendes agree should have been a yellow card, but to call Mendes a cheat because Trotter was sent off, come on now.

This is a no go. No matter how disappointing he has been £2m for a player who cost us 7 or 8 last year will not happen, which is probably a good thing because in 3 or 4 years time he's gonna be a smashing player imo

I hope Mendes stays. The likes of Kaboul we need. He is young and shows promise. We canot keep buying older players like Glen Little - It is just a quick fix, we need to be building up a team for the future.

£2m for Kaboul .. Time to get the cheque book out Harry... As for Pedro going, I'd be a bit hacked off as like some of you I think he brings the best out of Diarra... and I'd much rather see Pedro in the team than Diop... But if he goes he's got hero status and has written his history with Pompey already.

Smith staying at Northampton

Personally I wouldn't have thought Cook would have brought Smith back but even if the Pompey manager wanted this he couldn't under the terms of his Northampton loan.

Almost there...stay on target

The win over Newport saw Pompey react well to the defeat to Stevenage with most results going in the Blues' favour too, meaning we've effectively got a seven point buffer on Boro.

With most playing 39 League Two games in the 2016/17 season, this year could still see a few players break the 20 goal mark.
