'Arry wants to keep everyone

'Arry wants to keep everyone

Music to my ears is the news that Harry Redknapp has said that he does not want anyone to leave Fratton this summer - hopefully these words will be listened to...

Redknapp has told The News that those thinking of leaving Pompey this summer should think twice, as with the amount of games we will be playing he is going to fully utilise his squad: 'we want a squad and we are going to need a squad.

'The players we want to bring in have to give us something different from the ones we already have.

'We are going to be playing a lot of games.

'With the UEFA Cup, we are going to be playing Saturday-Thursday-Sunday. It's a busy schedule.

'I'm not going to be able to ask all the lads to play three games in a week. There is no way someone like Sol Campbell is going to be able to do that all the time.

'So we need some players to come in and we need numbers.'

The News says 'the likes of Pedro Mendes, David Nugent, Sean Davis, Arnold Mvuemba and Martin Cranie are all said to be unsettled', so would be the players most likely to be seeking an exit this summer.

Peter Storrie basically echoed these thoughts, stressing the 'staying will be worth it' thoughts in particular.

A couple will inevitably go, even if the club do not want them to but keeping as many as we can will give us the continuity to carry on what we are building. Adding a few quality players to the squad too - but only if they are improvements on what we have - and we have the potential for an even better season this time round...

With the amount of games we will be playing this season utilising the squad to its fullest must be something we do, this is not always something Redknapp has done but he does not have a choice now. To be able to utilise this as much as possible with players that we already have at the club, players that we know the exact the capabilities of would be fantastic.

For now. Once we start buying, a few will leave. Yes we need quality in depth & a good run in Europe will stretch us. Injuries & suspensions will take there toll so we can never have too many top players. I still expect a few to go but more & better to come in.

I can't see why Cranie should be unsettled. He had a broken leg for most of the season so he couldn't expect to play. Mvuemba is just starting to get first team starts so he should be looking forward to next season. Nugent may not have had the best of starts but he has a FA cup winners medal and has said he doesn't want to go. Mendes got a medal as well and seems assured of plenty of games to come. He may just want to go back to Portugal. Davis is not popular with HR at the moment so he could be unsettled. The story seems like some stirring by the News. Whilst on news reports;Fox Sports and Sentanta have just reported that Herry Kewell will sign for Roma today. The local new station here has been airing a face to face interview, supposedly done yesterday, with Harry Kewell and his agent and they said he hasn't had discussions with any team yet and doesn't know who he will play for next season. Who is telling a little fib?

Aussie I read about Cranie and thought what? Has a successful period on loan, wins U21 caps but then gets injured. Goes to FA Cup Final, what more? Think the News has it wrong as usual.
20/06/2008 12:20:00
davis and mendes are names that 'might' be slightly uneasy but as for nugent as said why would he be unsettled - he has said he will not be moved on, cranie should also - again as said - have no reason to be. the only thing that i can think 'might' see him unsettled is the fact that 'arry might have had a few harsh words with him over some recent 'alledged' incidents? all in all tho, most names mentioned by the news - hence the 'quote' - dont seem to add up do they...

You wrote what I was thinking Frattonaussie. Why should Cranie be unsettled? But if he does want to go and can't see what an opportunity he's got at Pompey at the moment - then bye bye!
20/06/2008 17:22:00
I hear Chelski have told SWP he can go!
20/06/2008 17:23:00
Thats what I read too tracyc then just after we sign Little (right wing as well) so where doe's this leave us on SWP?
20/06/2008 19:37:00
I think we should take SWP as well and make a present of Utaka to the Scummers.
21/06/2008 00:09:00
Don't compare Utaka, Little and SWP guys and gals.... one of them at least has performed in the premiership .. If SWP is available snap him up.... A long as he doesn't go clubbing with his brother that is
21/06/2008 00:36:00
If we sign SWP then I think Harry might have it in mind to move Utaka into a more central role as the back up for Defoe assuming Crouch joins us. If no Crouch then using Utaka and Defoe as dual strikers..
