'Arry on early season fixtures

'Arry on early season fixtures

Pompey kick off the 2008/09 season with a trip to Chelski, followed the week later when Manyoo come to Fratton.

Harry Redknapp has admitted that it is not ideal, but you play the cards you are dealt: 'it's not an ideal start for us - it's unbelievable really.

'But you've got to play the big teams at some stage and we just have to get on with it and see how we go.'

Chelski then Manyoo, it could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse we could have had Arsenal and Liverpool on top of this too - but why should this be a bad thing guys? As he said, we do have to play them at some point so why not get it out of the way early.

Chelski will be under a new manager, who will most probably bring in plenty of new players - as talented as they will be they will be new players to a team, to a system and many new to the English game possibly?

Yep, we will sign some new players too but hopefully the nucleus of our side will stay in place and those that come in will only strengthen us so we will only build on what we have.

I know I am always positive, and always think that we will win 'every game' but should we go in with the right attitude - a positive one believing that we can win the game and not have the usual 'its Chelski, we are not expected to get anything so if we can get something it will be a bonus' then we could go to the Bridge and end that phenomenal home record they have.

Will we ever have a better chance of beating Chelski on their own patch? To be honest I do not think that we will...

As for Manyoo in our first game at Fratton we know they hate coming to our place at the best of times - what will be the 3rd meeting in less than a month between us could see us going for the treble over them already!

Bring it on I say - fear either? Nope. Expect too much from these games? Again nope, but why settle for too little...

I'm with you Rug, I think we will do well against both - and I wish Harry would stop moaning.

Man Ure three times in a month, then, surely that means we've 'arrived' or something? Poor old Hal can't win, really, he's programmed to grumble - Like in January: with the new year comes the 'barebones' speech.

Looking forward to your visit already, guys. Should be an interesting game. I wonder if you'll be going into the game as favourites, though? You did win a trophy more than us last season, didn't you!

Some odds have us at 8-1 to beat Chelsea seems a but steep with the Londoners 1-4.

Can't wait for the Chelsea game, late finish 24th may, then defend our cup on the 30th that would be nice.

Last season Chelsea away was our 4th game & as it is now Man Utd were our 2nd game. Anything is a bonus. The Chelsea game does give us chance to beat them at home & break their record. I'd rather play both now before they get too settled. We'll be fine the bookies have us to finisg at least 10th. That will still be a great achievement. The worry is the impact of the UEFA cup. We usually took advantage of teams playing euro football days before we played them, no doubt others may do it to us. As long as wes stay balanced & focused as supporters & don't expect to finish in the top 4, we will enjoy the season. We'll be fine.

Well we will know Man U well at the start of the season after 3 matches against them in a few week. Will they be the same without Ronaldo and will Chelsea be the same if Lampard goes and will we be more lethal up front with some more strikers. More twists and turns tnen the Hampton Court maze.

It's just a shame that it's all still over a month away! Lets hope for a sunny day up in London, and probably the first two games live on telly!

Video - Barnet 1-1 Pompey

A late Barnet goal looked as though it would end Pompey's unbeaten run but Conor Chaplin proved the saviour when he scored a last minute equaliser to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.
