Baros will not be returning to Fratton?

This will probably come as no surprise to many, and this has seemed likely for some time now but it appears that Milan Baros will not be returning to Pompey next season - well that is if you believe setanta sports...

We were given first option to sign him after his loan move but no mention of us is given by Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas, who it is claimed has admitted that he is 'on the market', telling Le Progres: 'two German clubs contacted us and would be interested in his signing.

'He is on the market, but the option to have three strikers next year can be interesting.'

As said before, I thought the guy worked really hard - most of the time - and his movement was excellent, with him often proving an ideal foil for Jermain Defoe - the problem was he never, ever looked like scoring! So with the amount we would probably have to payout for him I have never expected him to sign to be honest...

He is starting tonight for the Czech's, so maybe he can turn a few heads against the Portuguese? I fancy he will do well in a Czech win but I am often wrong!

Maybe he still will return next season, but I cannot see it to be honest - can you?

Nope, and although he ran and ran for us, I don't think we will miss him come the start of the season.

Can't see him coming back but i feel he was a little unlucky with us, his work rate was excellent, his running off the ball was superb he just needed one to get him going, had he got going i think he'd have been back but Harry will probably look elsewhere now.

I think his problem has always been that he cannot look up when he has the ball. He always looks at his feet so must have no idea where he is running! lol

good points: he ran a lot. Bad points: he fell over a lot. he fouled a lot. he handballed a lot. he missed a lot. i think the bad points outwieghed the good ones there - and if we want someone to do the running,we have nugent, and olic for croatia was very impressive...

Never the player he was & no surprise. We thank Milan for the 'assist' which led the goal in the semi but other than that noty much else. We have moved up alevel & sadly he has moved down a few.

he reminds me of one of those crazed terriers which go mental when someone rings the doorbell. I suppose that's what the sensible man would call a good work rate.

he just played well for the Czech's

I liked him myself, I'd have liked (for the right money) to have signed him.

I think this is a good decision by Harry, we need a 20 goal a season striker and Baros is not that.

So I hope we get two strikers Crouch & another. question is who?

bluedr, have we not got that in Defoe? I think so. We need a hardworking forward (al a Benji) to do the work. I thought Baros played this role well.

I agree Pompey4me, although it is unfair and unwise to put all the pressure on Defoe to score the goals. Think of the luxury of having two or three sources for regular goals. Given our Defence record this year, if we had had a regular source for goals we could have broken into the top 4 - I think I am right?

I hate to sound like a doom monger gandor, but i doubt it. The top4 with my real world specs on (not FA Cup hype ones) are so far removed from us and the rest. We are in a league with 8 or so others scrapping for our own little championship. That is the truth, plain and simple, we don't have the resources, revenue, squad to challenge them. But; Top 10 and fighting for and winning a cup is a fantastic achievement for a club of our size, plenty of so called bigger clubs would no doubt swap places with us right now!

Penton, I don't think Gandor is that far wrong to be honest. Although of couse I may be a little bias, I think that with another proven goal scorer we could have picked up an extra 10 - 16 points from all our 0-0 home draws, that would have seen us challenging with Liverpool last season for fourth place.

Trouble is sneaky you have to supply the goalscorers first, and that is something we were quite woeful at, at times. All in all I can't complain at our final finishing position. Anywhere from 6th to 8th was deserved. We had games we deserved to win, Some we didnt, some had draw written all over it, it was about right all in all we got what we deserved.

Spot-on Penton and Gandor. Lack of creativity cost us. It's not like we created a hat full of chances that the strikers couldn't finish. It was sort of "swings and roundabouts" really last season; because whilst some were bemoaning our bad luck in the league, they were forgetting how we rode our good luck (hey, our name was on the cup - anyone ever doubt that?) all the way to that glorious afternoon at Wembley. Back to Baros....glad to see the back of him.

Yep, let's try and keep our feet on the ground....another season to match the one we've had would be fantastic (not implying that we're likely to win the Cup again next year!). If we can keep anywhere near the heels of the Top4 it would be a massive achievement.

As for Baros.....don't think there's many people drying their eyes upon news of his departure.
