Cisse keen to play for Pompey

Cisse keen to play for Pompey

The lure of playing for Harry Redknapp and the fact that we can offer uefa cup football next season makes Pompey an attractive proposition to Djibril Cisse...

Well, that is according to his agent Ranko Stojic: 'we've had some very interesting offers from Spain but he is very, very motivated to play in the Premier League again.

'He wants to play for a club with ambition and Portsmouth are a club with ambition.

'There has been no contact from Portsmouth or anyone else yet, but we expect to see who is serious this week.

'Portsmouth were interested in Djibril last season and so were Manchester City and West Ham.

'That was then, though, and this is now.

Just because we were interested in January it does not mean that we are now does it, so that is the key part of what Stojic said. He did go on to talk about the respect that they have for Redknapp and how much he would like to play for him: 'I know about Portsmouth and have spoken with Harry in the past.

'He is a top coach and someone Djibril would be keen to play for.

'Portsmouth are an ambitious club and Djibril wants to play for an ambitious club.

'There are maybe three or four teams like Portsmouth and Tottenham who he would play for.

'He wants to play at the highest level and have European football. The Champions League would be good, but so would a team in the UEFA Cup now with ambitions of playing in the Champions League.'

We do tick all the boxes for what he wants, but does he us? The major downside for me though is the fact that Marseille are looking for a reported £9m, and with Peter Crouch believed to be available at £10m I think the England man would win this battle...

Whatever happens though, the fact that players want to play for us now - even if it only agents touting their clients as can be the case - it proves how far we have moved forward.

Sounds very much like Cisse's agent is simply trying to start off a bidding war....good player, but is he worth the risk at that kind of asking price?

It may suit the player & his agent than it would suit us. I'd still rather have Crouch.

19 goals is a nice amount, but he was never really on fire in the Premiership. It does sound like his agent just trying to get things going.

Apparently Shaun Wright Phillips is a friend of Cisse. Perhaps we should wait and see if there's a chance of signing him before we make it too clear that we don't want Djibril.

i am sorry to say this but i would much prefer cisse to crouch. Cisse scores more and has more pace and can take it round players.Crouch scores but not enough he has no pace and cant take it round players !! Aslo heard gudjohnson is coming ??

stfc, I agree 100%, give me Cisse every time. A more complete footballer than Crouch can ever be. Defoe and Cisse with their pace and skill, WOW.

A born troublemaker, no thanks. And, if we don't make Europe next season watch the exodus

Big Ben returns!

There's no doubting how important Davies is to us, we most definitely missed the former Sheffield United man against Orient but Cook's confirmed he'll start against Bristol Rovers.

Winning over the fans

Cook feels he still has to 'win over a proportion' of the fans at Pompey?

Tubbs surprised...in a way he has a point

5-goals in a combined total of 8-matches isn't a bad return is it so having made his move to Eastleigh this week I get Tubbs' point at his surprise Cook wasn't selecting him.
