'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pompey planning 'sensational' Vieira swoop...

...well so claims The Daily Star anyway! If that gives the 'link' any credibility?

The suggestion is that Patrick Vieira has been told by new Inter supremo Jose Mourinho that he is not part of his future plans so Harry Redknapp is planning a '£4m swoop' for the soon to be 32 year old.

Fair enough perhaps, but the paper went on to claim that he would be offered £100,000 per week in wages...

Adding, it was hoped his friendship with former Arsenal teammates Tony Adams, Sol Campbell and I guess Kanu, well maybe even Lauren if he stays and his friendship with his international colleague Lassana Diarra will convince him to return to England and join 'the Arsenal retirement village', as we are often dubbed...

What do we reckon guys, pure paper fantasy or could we really be prepared to pay someone that much in wages? For me it seems highly unlikely to be honest!

Yes I heard this, ignore my email rug. It may signal Muntari going to Juventus?
storagematt
not sure he still has the legs for the rough and tumble of the Prem - more a vanity signing than anything I'd say.

If it's only in the Daily Star, there's your answer

I can't see PFC agreeing to $100,000 a week. It would only create unrest from other players.
frattonaussie
UKTony's hit the nail on the head.

If it was in the Daily Star then this may interest you guys....The league table of transfer rumours from last season. The first figure is the number of correct rumours published by the paper, the second is the total number and the % is the % that they got right (shame on the Daily Star and the Daily Mirror)...... Daily Telegraph 4 14 28.57% The Times 10 44 22.73% The Independent 4 18 22.22% The People 9 47 19.15% Daily Mail 9 49 18.37% The Guardian 2 11 18.18% The Sun 13 72 18.06% The Express 6 39 15.38% Daily Mirror 21 153 13.73% Daily Star 7 52 13.46%

Oh, and by the way, that league table refers only to Pompey transfer rumours.
NinjaTim
Great stats Tim - that's why I read the Times then wondered why? Can't see HR wanting Viera really though.
eastneydave
Hilarious link, but to see us linked with players of this quality is flattering to say the least! That's a big old wage to pay though!
Tantona
What a joke! It's almost as bad as the Telegraph leading in those stats Tim. The only reason for that is they are so late with their football news that it has already been done!
sneakay
It sounds good - if its true. You never can tell. Probably while we're all talking about Viera HR & Storrie will announce they've signed someone else completely.
tracyc
Sneakay, thing is there's adifference between news and bull***** and I think you'll find the Mirror, Star and Sun like to trade in the latter. Fact is, the gutter press write the "news" rather than report it.
NinjaTim
This will never come off he wants too much money in the first place , he wont keep up with the premiership speed and this is just rubbish proper transfer gossip !
stfc ballboy
Vieira isn't a patch on the player he was for Arsenal. Don't be fooled by all his medals.
stillthewhizz
Can't see Pompey paying him £100,000 a week but we did not deny it like we did Matos maybe tomorrow?
pompeyyong
Pompey will never pay £100,000 a week, that looks more like a Man city rumour for that money, the bloke is 32 as well now, thing is he is in Germany with the French squad, no contact will have been made anyway
paultsmouth
We all agreed before the window what positional players Pompey needed. The last thing was more midfielders and guess what, nearly all the rumours are midfielders.
007
Though Tim, at least you know that when you pick up the paper on a Sat morning to look at the team news it is going to be accurate in the gutter rags. So many times I have taken my old man (telegraph reader) to a game and he has asked where a player who has been injured for a few days is. "He was in this mornings line up in the Telegraph"
sneakay
Fair point but for football journalism the redtops really don't cut it. Joe Lovejoy in the Sunday Times is a good read, as is White (Jim, I think) in the Times.
NinjaTim
He may be 32 but I think £4 million would be a fantastic purchase.
