'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cisse in demand/Naylor/Davis off to Boro - again!

What has Sunday had in store for us, rumours and speculation wise as far as the papers are concerned?

Lets take a look...

Djibril Cisse has 'set his sights' on a return to England, with it claimed up to 7 premier league clubs are looking at him - he told The Observer: 'it's my wish now to be back in England. I had a good time in Marseille, but I really want to come back.

'My wife is from Wales and my family is here, but the main thing is the league. I think I am more of an English football type, I think it suits me better.

'I think if you are quick and strong - physically and mentally - you can do something in England. And I want to prove to everybody that I am a good player and I can do good things.'

There was talk that we wanted him in January, but he opted to stay with Marseille for the time being, but it is now 'claimed' that we, along with Citeh, West Ham, Spurs, Blackburn, Fulham and Wigan all want the French international...

I think this could be hit or miss, yep I know technically any move can be but I worry about us having another 'Milan Baros' on our hands, in as much as having a striker that does not score goals - and would he work as hard as the Czech striker did though?

All just 'speculation' at the moment anyway isn't it... or it is, what do you reckon on this 'link' guys?

==========

Another name we were 'linked' to in January has 'resurfaced' with it claimed that an offer has been made for Lee Naylor.

He Celtic left back is a decent footballer, and at £2m would be a cheaper alternative to Wayne Bridge - who looks like he will be staying with Chelski anyway - but personally for me would not be as good an option as Nicky Shorey - another fella we are 'meant' to be tracking.

Is it just 'lazy' Sunday morning journalism here with the Naylor talk, or could there be some substance? Hmm, only time will tell...

==========

And finally...

Last week he was going for £2m but now the 'knock down' price for Sean Davis to leave for Boro is even cheaper at £1.5m - I assume this amount includes Gary O'Neil returning as part of the deal eh...

Whilst I am pretty sure that Davis will leave Pompey this summer, as I am almost certain that O'Neil will not return if he left for a mere £1.5m I would be put out, as why should we sell players so cheaply when no one else does?

That said he is moving into the last year of his contract so unless a new deal is arranged, or a sell agreed by the end of August then he will be free to negotiate a free transfer for next summer come January time. So although it might not seem a lot, it would be better than nothing!

Yep, all in all I think Davis will go, and quite probably to Boro but for £1.5m - even taking into account factors mentioned - I do not think so... do you?

I like Shorey. He did very well for Reading, had a few England call ups & then as with Reading, had a season to forget. He ain't a bad player overnight & HR will get him back to where he should be.

damn straight, shorey would b a gd signin bt i dn't no enough bout naylor to comment really bt 4 £2m i wouldn't complain. as 4 cisse i would rather have baros tbh as u said m8 cisse would never work as hard as baros ad he'd still nt score goals lol
pompeym@
Shorey linked with many clubs Villa strongly, if we cant get Bridge then worth a try.
pompeyyong
Shorey is overrated. No thanks. Cisse i'd be up for. Pacey, strong and is definitely hungry. Much better than Baros.
stillthewhizz
Oh and at Liverpool he was never played in position nor loved by his manager.
stillthewhizz
shorey I have always felt is over rated - not that he is a bad player - but he probably wasnt good enough to play for england when he did. (he gets the basics right, but does nothing extra). cisse and naylor I don't really know a lot about - but if you want someone to do a lot of running for you, what about olic? (the croatian). He looked like a carbon copy of benjani last night, and complelty collapsed with exhaustion when he cam off - he had ran miles...

Cisse sounds good but a bit tempremental.Might spoil team moral.
pompeyfrance
I am not really interested in any of them. Although Naylor would be the best of all the options. Maybe we could get him to change the first letter of his surname to a T?

cisse would be better than baros, but he has a weird wife. shes soo much older than him and has and 18 yr old son. because of this, cisse isnt quite jermain defoe. and papers today say we are thinking about a £4m bid for viera. nice.
jbaker
Yes would very welcome djibril cisse a great player who is very quick and strong. He gets around 12 goals a season !!.No to lee naylor he is at least championship level.Plus we have herminator , lauren and pamarot for cover.If we could get aroun £3-4million 4 davis i would be happy a good player but we need to cash in for better quality also o'neil i would welcome back but that will never happen !

Carpet we have been linked with Olic before & yes he did run himself to a standstill, & today we were said to be looking at Maden Petric another Croation striker.

Naylor, Cisse & Shorey... I'd take them all as squad players but none of them strike me a s a BIG signing ala the Harry & Peter quotes...
