'Representative' claims Pompey bid for Mattos

'Representative' claims Pompey bid for Mattos

Despite Pompey denying an interest in Marcelo Mattos the Brazilians agent, or 'representative' as he is described, a certain Pini Zahavi claims that a bid from Pompey is being 'considered'.

A clause in his contract allows him to leave Panathinaikos for £5.9m and an offer has been made by Pompey according to Zahavi, who told Greek paper Goal: 'at this moment we are considering offers from English clubs, one is from Portsmouth and two more.'

He also went on to say that although he could move on this summer he may well stay in Greece: 'but it is possible for Mattos to stay at Panathinaikos, the player is very happy with the working conditions there and he loves the fans.

'He is also very satisfied with the attitude of the people at the club, we will have to wait a few weeks as the transfer market does not officially open until July.'

Issues gaining a work permit should not be a problem, as he will become a European citizen at the end of the month, picking up an Italian passport.

Agents, or 'representatives' say a lot of things don't they and not all of them are necessarily true - we will just have to wait and see with this one...

All Agents, club representatives and the media always tell the truth. Just ask them they will tell you this. So if an agent says a bid has been made and a club representative says no it hasn't been made we have to believe both of them. It must be a confusion with a language barrier; there could be no other reason- could there?

The higher the price, the higher the agents commission. So he'll play one clubu off against another. If he goes above our valuation we'll look elsewhere. Why some European clubs are always convinced that there players can make it in the prem when our league is different to theirs is beyond me. Playing well in Greece is no standard for England.

Interesting story, although to be honest I'd never heard of the lad before all this speculation started up recently. Obviously I'd take Zahavi's word with a pinch of salt as has been said already; until Storrie or 'Arry comment there's no way to be totally sure of the weight of the rumour

Old story witch pompey said was rubbish, but now coming from his agent, & who are the other two prem clubs if he names us why not them, seems odd to me.

Does seem a bit strange that the agent is saying that we are interested again. His last claim said that we had paid the release clause, and Pompey said not. At least it is giving us something to talk about.
