Hughes pivotal to transfers?/Pompey going Greek?

Hughes pivotal to transfers?/Pompey going Greek?

Withstanding the fact that we actually have to agree fees, which might not be cut and dried by any means the destination of Mark Hughes could play a major factor is some of our possible summer transfers...

He is being strongly linked with both the Chelski and Citeh managerial vacancies so should he take either then moves for players such as Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge and Richard Dunne could be put in the balance?

Should he take the Chelski job Wright-Phillips could come into his plans although I would suspect he would be more inclined to try and tempt David Bentley to follow him from Blackburn being a likely scenario? The suggestion is that should he go to Citeh that Dunne might have a change of heart about leaving the club so a move to Pompey, which is believed to be 'very close' would be shelved...

As if transfers were not complicated enough without throwing in other factors too!

==========

Reports today are 'linking' a fresh name with Pompey, this name being Marcelo Mattos from Greek club Panathinaikos.

No need to fear though, although he would be coming from a Greek club he would not be another in the mould of Skopelitis or Chalkias as he is a Brazilian, and former teammate of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from their time at Corinthians.

He only signed for the club last summer but the reports are that he 'has a release clause of €7million euros - £5.9million - which Pompey are have matched'. The fact that they are without a manager 'complicates' the issue, but not enough to prevent such a move happening - apparently...

To be honest I know absolutely nothing about Mattos apart from what I have read with the reports linking him to us, and what I have already shared along with these facts that he is a 24 year old midfielder!

We 'nearly' got Gareth Barry then O'Neil came in. Players will see what a new manager brings before deciding. It will be a long summer of ifs & buts. I don't see the need to panic, there is plenty of talent out there we just need to take what suits us when we can.

From what I have googled on Mattos, he is a Brazilian prodigy who plays as a defensive midfielder. If we sign him, then I think it is fair to say that Mendes and Davis will probably both go.

Also spotted that Mattos is not a Brazilian International and I get a hint of work permit problems.

Surely though as a Prodigy he would qualify under the exceptional talent law like nani. He was and under 17 international.

If Davis & Mendes both are going as rumored there could be some truth in this one to free up Diarra, but as Dave said I'd worry about the work permit.

Mattos rumor said to be rubbish, but is picking up passport in Italy on way back to Greece so permit would have been no problem

So Hughes goes to City then ... I wonder how the Manyoo fans feel ?... I think he'll want to keep Dunne ... which is unfortunate but it could be a long summer in terms of transfers and you never really know what's going on until deal is actually done (especially with Harry) We'll just have to wait and see.
