Defoe at the double

Jermain Defoe not only became the first Pompey player to score for England in 24 years he also became the first Pompey player to score two goals for 77 years after his double for England against Trinidad & Tobago last night.

Mark Hateley was the last Pompey man to score for his country in a memorable game with Brazil in 1984, with Jack Smith scoring his two against Spain way back in 1931!

Defoe was obviously delighted: 'it was important to win and I'm so pleased to get two goals

'I'm still learning and when a new manager comes in you all start at the same level,

'I will keep working hard. I finished the season strongly and I couldn't be happier with my move to Portsmouth. I'm delighted with my goals.'

Pompey players in the England squad, 3 Pompey players featuring for England at the same time last week, 3 Pompey players starting the game yesterday and Pompey players scoring for England too - how fantastic are these days guys...

It's dream time....Like the hint of a partnership with Crouch. This can only be good news for us trying to sign players with the profile we have at the moment. PUP

I have to admit that I was asleep by the time the game started last night. One of my work mates is trying to tell me that Jamo was a bit wobbly but I don't know if he is on a wind up or not?

shame defoe couldnt get his hattrick, but we cannot be greedy :-)
jamo did do one of his 'charges' out when he took out kenwyne jones - whilst he shouldnt have come out at least he got the job done, and i do not mean injurying jones...

This is truly dreamtime. 3 England players and counting. Jamo only did the one thing wrong, and no goal went in as a result. Other than that he was the rock he always is. Hart played the second half in goal and also had a wobble off the line and other than that nothing to do.

THREE Portsmouth players in the England team and it could be more soon. How good is that? Defoe deserves a run in the side against tougher opposition.

I thought Defoe seemed so much more relaxed this game and i thought Jamo was ok,I thought Glen J was really iffy and seemed to make one REALLY WILD tackle that would be a maybe red in a UEFA game, Glen needs to up his game to keep in england boss

Well pleased for Defoe, But starting even I wish this was true I feel when Owen is fit he will get the nod unless Jermain can do something extra special

That's my boy!!! Pinch yourself lads, what a time to be a Pompey fan. Crouch & Defoe next season then. I would also take Bridge, you can forgive him for his past. He still has a lot to offer, his crossing from the left would be priceless.

if our players keep performing at club level chances will keep coming at international level - taking them when they come in the key thing...

Anybody see the Capello interview where he was questioned about Defoe's performance? He said Defoe worked hard and was 'good' against T&T - and that he was one of his strikers, which I took to mean he will be in the squad from now on but will be used tactically. Interesting that he also said thats some players looked better in training than in the match - Ashton perhaps?

I didn't see that Chris, Interesting words, lets hope he gets a chance in some bigger games.
