'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pompey's 3 Lions

For the first time in Pompey's 110 year history, we will have 3 players starting for England.

Only a few short years ago we were chuffed with 2 Greek internationals!

Pompey fans can watch tonight with pride.

What with the extended rumours of Peter Crouch returning to the fold, and the possibility of that left-back who cannot be named arriving from Chelsea, Englands future line-up could be bolstered by a Pompey backbone for a while yet!

Has the sleeping giant of 50 years finally had a large dose of illegal substances?

you raise a couple of outstanding points there. Right, enough looking at the image, lets read the article! ;o)
The Fear
Picture has nothing to do with article, but it did catch my eye! Congrats on your acknowledgement again!
paultsmouth
cheers dude, appreciated.
The Fear
Unbelievable stuff three starters and Jamo has just wiped out Kenwyne Jones - which will help the defence!
eastneydave
And Jermain Defoe becomes the first Pompey player to score for England for 24 years - Mark Hateley against Brazil.
eastneydave
Play up England, England play up!
pompey4me
When I saw the line up my first thought was '3 Pompey Lions'. Fantastic for the lads & for Pompey. Defoe scores, James takes out scummer Jones, just waiting for Johnson to clatter the other scummer Stern John. Forever Pompey, Forever England.
storagematt
fantastic to have all 3 starting - delighted that defoe scored! jamo got lucky with his 'rush of blood' didnt he, he doesnt do himself any favours doing that does he and will be slated for it wont he...
hopefully defoe comes out for the 2nd half as it would be nice for him to score again, and if johnson gets forward more who knows!
pompeyrug
well jamo's season is now done - he can have a well deserved rest now.
pompeyrug
crouchy laying on a goal for defoe - i rekcon we will see that a fair bit next season :-)
pompeyrug
Hell Rug, when you stick your chest out you do it in a big way... nice photo. Defoe got 2 and should have had 3. Hayden fro T&T who HR is after also did well it seems and I understan Crouch and Defoe combined well. I went to the World Cup qualifier last night between Australia and Iraq. Australia won 1-0 with Kewell scoring with a header. He played well with some nice touches and if McDonald, who plays for Celtic, had been a bit sharper more goals would have been scored. Iraq is a good team and could teach Pompey how to take corners and free kicks. Most of them we top class and with better finishing could have been turned to goals against any team.
frattonaussie
Two goals for Defoe, linked up well with Crouch, dare I dream??
pentonpompey
Better start watching England from now on then; everyone must be very proud of what we've achieved in only a few months
UKTony
I hope Jamo isn't being too slated for his rush to the head - I yelled 'what are you doing!' at the telly myself. When was the last time a Pompey player scored 2 in the same match for England? Now Defoe has found his scoring feet again for England there'll be no stopping him. Pity we haven't got the Euros to watch him in. I'm supporting Croatia!
tracyc
I just can't stop going back to have another look at the quite lovely photo at the top of the page! What are we discussing again.....
sneakay
i cannot take credit for the image used as paul wrote this article not me...
pompeyrug
im still buzzing today after seeing us start with 3 players for england - unbelievable... crouch, SWP and Bridge, how sweet would that be?
i know its not that likely but if liverpool are 'only' going to have to pay £8.5m for bentley we ought to get in the running too!
pompeyrug
I really like the image!! Nothing else to say!! Ha Ha!!
PompeyMilhouse28
We could have EIGHT England players on our books next season; James, Campbell, Johnson, Defoe, Nugent (yes, he played for England), Crouch, Bridge, SWP
NinjaTim
So do I milhouse...thought for a minute i'd gone onto ratemyboobs.com! Ha Ha
pentonpompey
Great johnson not only started, but got a full game, & Defoe most the game & 2 goals now Jamo must be first choice now.
pompeyyong
only team to have more than one player in the starting line-up. then again, nearly all of the man u and chelsea players went home. we were still the third most represented club for the usa game, when it was an almost full strength squad!
jbaker
Will you all stop commenting on the picture of my wife !... Come to think of it how DID you get the picture Paul ?
