Pompey ready to 'fight' for Dunne

Having confirmed an interest in Shaun Wright-Phillips an interest has also been confirmed in Richard Dunne by Harry Redknapp.

He has told Radio Five Live that we are prepared to 'compete' with the likes of Spurs for his signature, and feels that we are now more than capable of doing so: 'I like Richard Dunne.

'I think he's a top player but I think there's a couple of clubs in for him at the moment, but I think we've got as good a chance as anyone now.

'We've got in the UEFA Cup for next year and we've got some good players so hopefully we can start to compete with the Tottenham's and the Villa's and teams like that.'

If 'little Portsmouth' can compete with the likes of Spurs and Villa, beating them in the transfer market then this is another sign of the huge advances that we have made over the past few years, and would then look like continuing.

We had one of the best defences in the country last season, what was it 23 clean sheets? Imagine what we could do next season with the thought of adding Dunne and the fit again Linvoy Primus to the options - mind blowing really!

In typical Redknapp fashion though he did play down the rumours linking us with Peter Crouch: 'I haven't spoken to Peter.

'I haven't had any conversations with anyone at Liverpool so there's definitely been no contact.'

Although his interest was raised when he was made aware of the fact that Liverpool have dropped their original 15m valuation of the England man by saying 'that's getting more interesting'...

hmm, I didn't include him in my Harry for a Day team, looks like I might have been wrong.

HR seems to want to build an impregnable defence for next season.

On comments made by HR and Storrie the squad might be 28 this year so we might all be 3 players short.

A bidding war appears to be about to take place for Dunne if the fan sites are to be believed. Several are running articles claiming he is a target.

i think that if he wasn't a target, for a club chasing europe, either they must have...a lot of very od defenders, or questionmarks should be rasied about there ambition. he is a top class defender, and it is not often one of them comes onto the market.

Dunne is very good, but top class Im not so sure Although I must say with Distan here they would know each others game.

A good defender is Mr Dunne, not top class but decent. When Distan came I was a little fearful, considering the amount of goals Man City had leaked that Season, but he proved me wrong. It would be interesting to see him back with Dunne in the middle, johnno and Bridge?? if vitalchelski is to be believed.

I am still not convined that I would like to see Dunne and Distin re-paired as our central defenders......if it does happen though I will believe in Harry's choice.

Dunne now wants to talk to the new manager (Mark Hughes)? before making his mind up. This one may drag out a bit.
