'Arry on Shaun Wright-Phillips

Without fully committing Harry Redknapp has admitted to The News that he would like to sign Shaun Wright-Phillips: 'I haven't spoke to anyone at Chelsea. But I like Shaun. He's a terrific talent.

'I wouldn't know how much Chelsea wanted for him, though, if they were going to sell.

'Maybe they would want to wait until a new manager comes in.

'But equally they may not need a new manager to come in before they sell someone. I wouldn't know how Chelsea run their affairs.

'The player may want to wait until a new manager comes in and have a look at things then.

'But maybe he would look at his situation there and think he wanted to leave.

'Of course he's the type of player I would love to have, though. He's an excellent player.'

Some think that we do not have the reported £10m transfer fee it would cost to sign him, but the chances are we will spend at least £30m this summer I reckon - around two thirds of this could be used to sign Wright-Phillips and Peter Crouch perhaps, but I think it would be money well spent...

I know 'money doesn't grow on trees' but lets show we mean business and make this move happen - we would most certainly reap the benefits of any such move I have absolutely no doubt about it.

The thought of yet another England international at Pompey is fantastic isn't it, or am I the only one excited by this?

I remember on Jan 1st 2007 when we played Spurs the announcer at FP said we have a special announcement to make at half time - and there I was convinced we had signed SWP... but nope, they announced an extension to the OKI deal... and here's me thinking I stand a good chance of winning Harry for a Day!!

We might have 30mil to spend but I wish we could spend it now. I can't face a nailbiting summer waiting for Crouchie tactics to unfold and for Chelsea's new manager to say ye or nay to Wright-Phillips. Am I right in thinking Wright-Phillips is tiny like Defoe? And is he British?
Gandor
shame avram isnt still in charge there, he would of pulled a few strings to make him come to us, if we want him that is.
Gleams
yep defi is another pocket size dynamo and england international.
i cannot say 100% that we have £30m to spend - that just what i suspect, but i would 'love' SWP to become one of these signings, which could happen with or without grant if he fancies us and reckon crouchy is a nailed on certainty...
pompeyrug
Gandor - SWP makes Defoe look like a giant!
merlin
Agree with Gandor let's get on with it. Splash the cash and then put your feet up before pre-season training.

i think its clear isnt it that teh three players are SWP, crouch and Dunne. all quality players and much needed. i would be delighted if we got one though tbh. I cant see dunne coming here with tottenham ready to splash stupid money. but if dunne goes there, ledly king may be available?
Gleams
Totally agree with Gleams, I would be real happy to see any of those three come to the club, I think SWP would make our first 11 complete!
CharlieChimes
Personally I cant see SWP or Dunne coming to us, and for that matter I am a big doubter in Crouch appearing
sneakay
ye, but think about it, all three players are english, and in our squad we have 3 england internationals which is more then any of the other teams outside the top 4. plus the fact that harry surely is more appealing to work under then ramos.
Gleams
sorry dunnes irish!!

Maybe Harry can weave some of his magic on SWP, cos he has been truly *****e for us... Seems we like taking players and draining all the confidence out of them. Useless on the right wing, ball'snever under his control, not to mention some of the worst crosses, misplaced passes and woeful shooting you're ever likely to see in the prem. Harry'll need every trick up his sleeve to undo the nasty work our lot have done on him. Still, good luck to him and Pompey, Crouchey in for Kanu sounds good. Looks like Heskey ('chuckle chuckle') is on his way, though. 3 million.

LETS GET SWP IN NOW BEFORE OTHER CLUBS LOOK AT HIM!!!! C'mon 'Arry make a swoop!!!
PompeyMilhouse28
adams and 'arry will 'put their arm round him and make him loved' as they have with glen johnson, and well all know the benefits that has brought us...
pompeyrug
Crouch & SWP top class yes, but Dunne would be 1 of the 5 not the 3 top class were after surely.
pompeyyong
I hope Harry and Peter are working overtime to get SWP in. I agree he can be erractic but at least he gives his all unlike Utaka
pentonpompey
As for Heskey, I don't have a problem with that, he'd make a superb foil for Defoe, excellent link up player as well.
pentonpompey
Arsenal or Chelsea orphans, keep them coming.
storagematt
Harry certainly has a proven record of making those who have lost their way find it again. I think SWP would be a great replacement for Benji, and a perfect foil for Defoe. One for the stattos - has there ever been 2 brothers, one playing for us and one playing for that deckchairs lot down the road?
