'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Late move for Dunne/Diarra says he is here to stay

With Richard Dunne certain to leave Citeh this summer his destination appeared to be White Hart Lane, but 'reports' are claiming that we are preparing a late bid to 'hijack' Spurs' attempts to sign the Irish defender...

It is being said that we will launch a 5m counter offer to rival Spurs, which if true the fact that we have his former Citeh teammate Sylvain Distin 'might' give us the upper hand?

If we did sign him we would have 4 top class central defenders in the form of Dunne, Distin, Sol Campbell and of course the returning Linvoy Primus - talk about strength in depth!

Could he become the first 'quality' addition to the squad this summer that has been spoken about?

==========

Pompey keep saying that Lassana Diarra will not be going anyway, and the player himself has been hinting at this but he has given his strongest indication yet that he will be with us next season by telling L'Equipe: 'I am fine at Portsmouth, where I have won the cup.

'I am very happy there. At Portsmouth, I have learnt a lot of things, and I am one of the key players.

'I joined them to play a lot of matches. And I have found what I wanted.'

The key phrase is 'I joined them to play a lot of matches' - and he has by now means played 'a lot of games' yet has he!

This sounds promising but until the summer transfer window slams shut and we still have him at Fratton I will not be completely comfortable, but I am now feeling more confident than ever that he will stay with us for at least another season...

would you swap diarra and muntari for kaboul and zokora

In a word - NO! Diarra is different class, Muntari isn't far behind. Market value for the pair must be in excess of 25m.. Wouldn't want to pay a 1/4 of that for your two (sorry, but a genuinely honest opinion). Jury is out on Kaboul, although Harry was definitely keen last summer - if you get Dunne, then would not be surprised to see HR renew his interest in him, but would be surprised if he paid more than about 3m... Zokora has had his moments, but again, would be disappointed if we paid more than 3 or 4m for him...

you pointed out you already have 3 top defenders, with only have 2, 1 unlikely to ever play again, thats the main reason hed come to tottenham as hed get more games. dont be arrogant, diarra and muntari are not worth anywhere 25m let alone in excess of, ill admit theyre both respectively better than kaboul and zokora but no way 25 between the two, diarra is 10m ill give you that as he is a class act and will only get better, but muntari is nothing on diarra and barely half his price.kaboul will not be sold for 3m we bought him last summer for 7m there is no way wed take a loss of 4m, anything less than 7m will not be accepted, as he is a good squad player for us, however im gonna have to agree with your assessment of zokora...

diara is worth 15 million+. Players values are going through the roof at the moment, and diara is one of the best. Muntari has shown flahseds of class, but still lacks consistency. that will come next season... i wouldn't let either go, unless we had someone REALLY big lined up (a.k.a. ronaldo) - that is just what i feel. there are very few players that are better than either of them!

pompeycarpet are you joking? You think that there are hardly any player better than Muntari?! Are we talking about the same person? Diarra is class, I would say only bettered in the Premiership by Mascherano and Essien for his position. But if you think that Muntari is worth 12mil + I think you are crazy!

if mascherano cost, what 16m then diarra at least matches that valuation - we paid 7m for muntari, his price has at least held, probably increased to around 10m even tho i dont think he had the best of seasons tbh... he will come good next season, so in todays market i dont think that a 25m assesment of diarra and muntari is unfair at all.

it would be tough to keep all 4 defenders happy, but with the league, league cup, fa cup and uefa cup - and i genuinely believe we will be in all 3 cups with a real view to win them, not just make up the numbers - they would get their fair share of games, linvoy would fill in at right back too if needed so i could see dunne signing even tho we have more defenders, and quality defenders at that than spurs...

Diarra is top dog at Fratton at the moment, that is clear, Muntari has shown flashes of what he can do, but he is erratic and gives the ball away far to often, Zakora would not be welcome at Fratton after his blatant dive to win the penalty at the Lane last season, Dunne however is welcome with open arms!

dunne will not come to portsmouth, why would linvoy fill in at RB when you have lauren and glen johnson, you have 3 quality CBs, i really cant see him going anywhere else but spurs.i have to agree with dazspurs, for his position diarra is only worse than mascherano and essien, but muntari has not done enough to increase his 7m price tag, and if he was valued at 12m as you claim i think hed be sought after by all the big clubs, has he even nailed down a first team place?

lets just wait and see then pukelerry - the chances are lauren will go, that is why linvoy could fill in at right back, but only if needed, as he has plenty of times in the past...

I would like to think that Diarra is of better class than Mascherano and I think in a few years he will become one of the best players in that central position. I think Dunne will still go to Spurs as they will offer more money. We still can chase Mensah and Lusiao though.
