How is Distin not going to Euro 2008?

How is Distin not going to Euro 2008?

I have often said to myself this season 'the French must have some bloody good defenders if Sylvain Distin cannot even get anywhere near their squad' - but having seen their Euro 2008 defensive line-up, despite the fact they have obvious quality I do not see too much that is much better than him to be honest, and this is a 'Pompey blinkered' view aside, honest!

How is it that the donkey in the image above is able to get into the French squad, yet Distin cannot get a sniff?

For those of you that do not know, this donkey, who must surely be the French equivalent of Titus Bramble is none other than Jean-Alain Boumsong, a man who formed the other half of the comedy double act with the said player at Newcastle a few years back...

Ok, Distin has not been in the side all year so the fact that he has not made the squad going to Euro 2008 is not a surprise at all now, but either Boumsong has really got his act together since leaving for Juventus - I think it was Juventus - and now back in France with Lyon or Raymond Domenech does not really pay much attention to the Pompey games when he has Lassana Diarra watched - assuming he does even have him watched?

Distin must have been right up there with the best defenders in the country last season, in a league regarded by many as 'the best in the world', so to be that good in such a good league must give him the qualifications needed...

Granted I did not see him week in week out, but from the amount I did see he gave William Gallas, tantrums and all, a run for his money - so although I must confess before he signed I did not realise he was as good as he is, I am amazed that he has never been capped by France - maybe he can gain English citizenship soon eh!

Ah well, their loss will be our gain as he will be kept fresh for next season anyway...

Speaking of the French and Diarra, he has made the final cut going to Euro 2008 this summer, being issued squad no.21 - so at least we can watch him even if we cannot watch Distin, or of course England!

We also have Niko Kranjcar too, given his favoured no.19. He will be pivotal to the Croatian hopes this summer.

He didn't bring Mexes either, even if he his one of the best defender in the Calcio, in Europe and in the World. He took Boumsong like that, nobody can complain that *****ty Thuram will play all the games, as now Mexes is far far far better than Thuram. He also didn't take Treeguet, cos Domenech and Henry might be lover or something, he made believe to everyone (with the help of the french newspapers) that Henry-Trezeguet pair doesn't work and he prefers Henry, BUT the pair works really really well but unfortunaltly for him for Trezeguet who score more than 20 goals with Henry in th French Squad (more than 50% of his goal) when Henry scored only 15 (25% of his goal only). Domenech is just stupid, but i'm happy he didn't bring Cisse to the euro, he prefered Gomis, God we are safe........

Boumsong is crap and Thuram about to collect his bus pass but Distin DESERVES to be in the French squad!! His level of consistency over the last 4 or 5 years has been remarkable and there is NO reason why he is not included. France may live to regret it.

i think its got to the stage where france have just thought "whats the point in giving him his first cap when he is in his 30s". which is just stupid, he deserves to be there as much as anyone else. and not having trezeguet or cisse in the french squad isnt definitely a bad thing, they do have players like benzema, ben arfa, nasri and ribery all coming through the ranks.

What a bunch of wan*ers. They can't afford to leave a guy like Distin out of their defence, anymore than they could leave out Henry if he's avaiable.

I have to feel sorry for distin. During his career, he has gone from club t club, and always been the best - but how has he not got a single call up? maybe he has said he doesnt want one?

Distan has allways looked a good player, now after watching him this season I did not know how good, a shame for Distan, their loss our gain.

Distin has talent and has enormous commitment and loyalty to us as can be gleaned from his recent interview when his views concurred with what we were all saying a few weeks ago on this site. Ie: A lot of players were back peddling in the lead up to the Cup Final, and that cost us fifth place. The man really cares. Shame on France!

Vital View - League 2, 18th February 2017

Doncaster's winless run went on but they remain three points ahead of Plymouth. Carlisle are a further two points back. Leyton Orient and Newport hold the unwanted relegation places.

Video - Barnet 1-1 Pompey

A late Barnet goal looked as though it would end Pompey's unbeaten run but Conor Chaplin proved the saviour when he scored a last minute equaliser to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.
