Govou wants Pompey move

Govou wants Pompey move

Sidney Govou has been heavily linked with a move to Pompey over the weekend and if reports are true he has issued a 'come and get me plea'...

According to his agent, Frederic Guerra, the player not only wants to come to England, but the thought of a move to Pompey appeals to him: 'Sidney wants to come to England and is interested in Portsmouth.

'He is at an age where he wants to move. He has made that decision.

'But at the moment I don't know if that is possible.

'I have heard that Harry Redknapp may be interested.

'But Harry has not contacted me and nor has anyone from Portsmouth so far.'

Links first started last summer, so if previous history is anything to go by when we chase a player for that long we usually get them eventually - maybe this could prove the case here with the 28-year-old French international, who has 31 caps to his name.

Other clubs in England are 'said' to be interested, along with teams in Spain, but if he wants to come here and if we want him and can of course agree a fee with Lyon, believed to be £7m then chances are it will happen.

'If' we did sign him it could be as a striker or a winger, and with Peter Crouch also being 'heavily linked' I would suspect it would be as more of a winger to be honest?

Seen him play on TV and never been over impressed. Mind you 31 Caps and 7 goals is not a bad record. Only shortish though at 1.75m (5ft 9in).

Don't recall ever seeing Govou play, but have obviously heard his name many times (and signed him on Football Manager once or twice...). Anyone who's played for France that many times can't be a mug! Not sure I'd hold his height against him, but upfront with Defoe would limit the options a bit!

A good small one is better than a fair big one. (I'm thinking 6ft 7ins)

Can't say I know much about him, but I do always find it interesting when players supposedly issue a 'come get me' to teams. Surely that in theory should lower his price as it sounds like he wants to leave.

It seems he's scored 1 in 6 for Lyon, which is pretty good for a player who plays in midfield most of the time. I could see him as a replacement for Utaka but not long ago Harry was telling us that Utaka was going to be fantastic next year. Mind you, given Harry's ability to zig when you expect him to zag, I guess that's not much to go on. I don't think he would come as a striker though, he's not up to much in the air and he's not got the finishing ability of a Defoe, or dare I say it, a Crouch.

I have never seen him play but, if he is any good, it would be nice to get a player who openly says he wants to be with the club as he is likely to give his best to impress everyone.

utaka said he wanted to play for the club last year... but that hasn't changed the amount of effort he puts into games! However i still think we will see more of the good player than the bad next year (i.e. nearly all the time...)

yep agree with you PhilTaglia, 'if' govou did sign, he would sign as a winger as 'arry has other ideas for a striker - crouchy is coming back im convinced of it...

sorry to dissapoint u guys but crouchie is staying at liverpool for a another year so he can leave next summer for nothing !.Think arry has found a type of class player in govou. Scored 8 goals in ligue 1 and he is a winger that has got more goals than all of our midfield got together. GO and Get Him Arry!!!

Hartlepool (a) - Safety first!

A win at Wimbledon made sure of a play-offs place. Technically we can finish in the top 3 but this would require an unlikely set of results from too many clubs wouldn't it?
