Hull it is - congrats to them/Grant the scapegoat

Congratulations to Hull, who will be playing in the top flight for the first time in their history having overcome Bristol City in the championship play off yesterday - it will be quite a trek for me from the Devon base, but finances permitting and assuming others that I travel with will go then Hull is one that I would like to add to my 'visited list' next season.

I did not really mind who won this battle to become a new team to the top flight, and when I say 'a new team to the top flight' I did not mean this literally, as I did not, or would not want to imply that the top flight has only ever existed since the premier league was born, as this is a view that p****s me off! I simply mean a new team to the premier league top flight, which is something I always like to see. Either way Hull are a new team to any top flight anyway.

Having said I did not mind who went up, with Bristol City having missed out this puts paid to plans of 'making a weekend of it', which I would have done had they gone up as I have a friend who lives near Bristol...

==========

What can you say, yesterday saw Avram Grant pay the ultimate price for a totally unacceptable p**s poor showing this season - what a disgrace the Israeli was to Chelski, as he could 'only' guide them to runners up spots in the league, champions league and league cup and a quarter final place in the FA cup...

No wonder he was sacked, with a 'shocking' record like that he deserved all he got, how dare he go so close, yet so far on so many fronts!

Clearly I am being sarcastic, as I really feel for the fella. Ok, maybe Chelski were not playing the most attractive of football under him and maybe he might not have been the most charismatic of characters but in all fairness have they really been doing this - playing attractive football - consistently over the past few years, even when they won back to back titles?

He was rarely, if ever given a chance by most, both in the media and within the stands from what I could see, so in all honesty I say he is best off out of it at Chelski!

What price a return to Pompey as director of football again?

I know that a fair few would quite like this. I do not think that he ever really got the credit that he deserved for what he did here either, as he was more than a BBC - bibs, balls and cones - man.

Good luck to Grant wherever his future lies, and also good luck to the next man in the Chelski hot seat - it appears that the club are adopting the Real Madrid approach of what is, and what is not acceptable...

good article on current stuff Rug! Ths sacking of Grant is an absolute joke!! I really do feel for this fella, as you described above, hes had what I would consider a great season!! he was without John Terry, frank Lampard & the african congident (that included their best striker Drogba) for big chunks of the season, so to get sooooo close to winning the prem & the champs leauge makes it an absoulte mistery to me for why this guy has been sacked...i say that, but I dont think he was destined to last as he was never in favoure from the moment he started!! just another casulty in this inpatiant leauge...Big Sam, Sven & now Avram...

Feel free to say "New team in the top flight"! City have never been up there in 104 years. Looking forward to locking horns with the big teams... Especially the glorious FA Cup winners. ;) 2007/8 not a season Pompey or Hull will forget in a hurry is it?

A good read Rug! Like you I was tipping a perfect final of Bristol and Hull, and was delighted to see another team new to the Prem promoted (and I think the right team got there in the end). Can't see them finishing above us which is also a bonus! Avram Grant was extremely hard done by. The thing that bothers me, is that even if John Terry had kept his feet and won the game for Chelsea, Grant would most certainly still have been shown the door. There's just no pleasing some people! Good coach and likeable character, hope he gets another chance at a decent club. P.S. Good luck staying up ph_1980 - get rid of Fulham please!

good luck ph_1980 - i just got some grief for my use of that the other day, i knew what i meant but it was taken the wrong way, which in fiarness i guess i can see why it was... so do you really think you can stay up?

I can't imagine that other Managers would want to go to clubs like Chelsea and Man City when they see what has happened to previous Managers?

Congratulation ph 1980 - look forward to welcoming you to Fratton Park.....!

It makes you think Grant was only there till the end of this season whatever happend now they have the off season to appoint a new manager. Well done Hull

Well the Tigers. To Hull & back will be one hull of a trek for us down here. No doubt the Chelski pay off helped to ease the pain for Avram. As tough at the top as it is at the bottom.
