'Duff' winger on the Pompey wish list?

Pompey are on the lookout for wingers this summer, our need for natural width had been apparent for most of the season and with this next season - and some real creative influence in the middle of the park - I feel we will literally be flying!

A 'fresh' name added to the 'linked to' columns with Pompey is Damien Duff who is said to have told friends 'he is leaving Newcastle this summer' and his home is 'already up for sale'...

At his very best he was a fantastic footballer who you would not have had to give any thought over before signing but the Irishman has had plenty of injuries and loss of form over the past few years, but if the price were right he could be worth a punt I reckon? Newcastle paid £5m for him, so I would expect that would be the maximum we would have to pay.

I know he is not to the liking of everyone, but if he could keep himself fit as he is on a free maybe Harry Kewell could be a left sided option too... keeping fit is his problem though, with it said that he cost Liverpool more than £100,000 for each game he played during his time there, which were not that many! The chances of him now being able to magically keep fit are not that great are they?

On the right side John Utaka was said to have played a blinder in the Friends of Kanu game last night, so lets hope we see this more next season - he keeps saying we will! I also have this sneaky feeling that maybe, just maybe Franck Songo'o might yet have a part to play for us, and we could see a bit of him next season...

I cannot wait for these wing positions to be filled, once we have these sorted as I say I think we are going to be in business!

Injury prone. May give you 20-25 games. Not enough. Has had his best days. Not 4 us.

Don't you just love all the speculation. I mean, why would these players come to Pompey, it isn't as if you've ever won the FA Cup or anything is it... oh hang on! :o))

It will make it interesting for the picking of my squad next week! SO many players to choose from.

I think Duff's best days are gone because of his constant injury problems but he may be one for the HR 'treatment'

I can't see Songo being with us next year. There are Championship clubs after him and he wants and needs a couple of seasons of regular football to get to his best. Duff, like Kewell, has talent but would he pass a stringent fitness test. If both of them came on frees or low transfer fees and were paid on a pay per game basis I couldn't see a problem with that. They could be given the carrot of a contract at the end of the season if they played a set number of games in the same way Kanu has this season.

Sneakay; lots of players to choose from and lots of big money being talked. But remember Harry is Harry so he may pick one pricey player but most will be in the bargain basement and probably ones we haven't been linked with yet. Harry is great at praising a player but then buying someone else no one else has considered.

nope 'arry is going to have a fair amount of money to spend this summer, so altho im not expecting it do not be surprised to see a few 'big money' signings arriving...

I think among all the usuall speculation the only banker is Crouchie, he has been down again talking and it will be around 8-9 million im sure, theres no way he is worth 15m (yet). What a pairing that would be up front, that would frighten any defence. Would mean reverting back to a 4-4-2 formation though.

Oh it gets worse. First Kewell and then this. Don't even think about it Harry. A pair of has-beens.

problem is, harry likes has beens! its just that this time, the has beens we are talking about are worse than the players we already have. I hope songo'o will stay. he has had a good run in the shefield wednesday team, so i would expect harry to want to give him a go. if not, a lona would be ok - but he really does look like an excellent talent!!!

Carpet, There's Harry's "Has Beens" who he breathes life into and the then there's "Has Beens who Never Will Be Again". Duff and Kewell are the latter.

Yes Duff has had his best days, wide players need speed as well as skills sorry not for me.
