'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Are we sure it was Wembley and not Fratton...

The way that Wembley was rocking on Saturday afternoon you would be forgiven for thinking we were actually at Fratton if you did not know any different...

Of course Wembley is what, just about 5 times the size, whereas Fratton is just a ramshackled pile of you know what - in the eyes of many people, but I say give me Fratton any day of the week!

The atmosphere on cup final day was electric, absolutely incredible so any fears that the best of the best atmospheres that we can generate at home could not be transferred to Wembley were well and truly dispelled.

This is a fact that was not lost on Sylvain Distin who had special praise for the fans and the part that we played in helping us claim the FA cup as he told The News: 'our supporters were great - but I didn't expect anything less of them.

'They were great for the semi-final and they were fantastic again.

'They are our 12th man. When other teams come to Fratton Park, they don't expect so much noise from a small stadium.

'And the fans played their part for us again.

'They do it so often. They follow us everywhere and we're so happy we could give them a trophy.'

He also had much praise for Cardiff fans too, who he said also kept singing all the way to give it a fantastic atmosphere all round.

Some have worried that we were 'losing the support that we once gave', but that is not the case; we will never lose this no matter what... At least I hope not!

unfortuntly, we did not manage to beat liverpools record of the loudest noise in football though... and whilst we couldnt hear the cardif fans from where we were, they couldnt hear us either. sound does not carry in that big stadium!!!
pompeycarpet
you cant really hear the block next to you either pc... which is why we couldnt beat pool! :( although we did have a laugh at jenkins expense in the national anthems singing! lol.

A great atmosphere! Still not sure how my voice didn't break though. Next time I will just have to try and go louder!

I had a text from Chix just before kick off saying 'Oh my god this is amazing play up Pompey bring it home' That summed it up pretty well for me, it was certainly different to the semi with so much more at stake.

My ears were still ringing yesterday morning. Marvellous!!!!

I saw Chix at Wembley or should I say he saw me first. Great noise from us & we were offically nosier than them. No shook it that really. Forever Pompey & emotionally recovered, just.
storagematt
Just great I love the noise & feel proud that we have this reputation

Well I bought some "clackers" from the Fratton Shop and I clacked them the whole way through (drove everyone bonkers - almost the same effect as John Westwoods bell) and I was absolutely screaming when Kanu scored, and when I wasn't screaming I was singing. Really enjoyed myself. My one regret is that I have bought my first season tickets in the South Stand at Fratton Park - nobody sings there. (I shall have to take my clackers - that'll liven them up a bit - one way or the other)!

it was a fantastic atmopshere wasnt it, what a day, what a game - a dream come true!

My only regret was that my damn voice went on Friday so I sounded like a strangled Rod Stewart. Still what a day and never to be forgotten. I took my 10 year old lad and said that he has just witnessed something special, and just hope that he doesn't have to wait until he takes his son before he see's us do it again. Don't think he will as the squad will get stronger and I reckon we will be a regular top 6 club, with hopefully a few more Wembley apperances over the next few years.
