Were all going on a... Nigerian tour!

Before going on a European tour next season we will be embarking on a Nigerian Tour as part of our pre-season plans.

Harry Redknapp revealed to sky sports over the weekend that we will be spending time in Nigeria this pre-season, and will come up against our community shield opponents Manyoo whilst over there: 'I haven't told them yet but we will be going to Nigeria pre-season.

'I don't know if it's going to be a pleasant surprise for them but I think everybody enjoyed Hong Kong last year.

'We are going to play Manchester United out there (Nigeria). Apparently they want us out there and the thinking was that if it is good for Manchester United then it's certainly good for us.

'Then we come back and play United again at Wembley in the Community Shield and we're looking forward to that - but personally my only plan is for a holiday with my wife.'

King Kanu will be elated at this!

To be honest I was a little surprised when I first found out this, but I would suspect that this is in someway financially beneficial to the club, but I would also suggest that with so many African players in our squad, although our reputation has grown throughout African this will help it grow yet further...

I think you're right; someone has sat down and worked out this is commercially viable so go for it. A long way for the fans though; I'll have to make do with Bournemouth and Swindon.

The very fact we have King Kanu in our team is going to help endear us to the locals - he really is football royalty over there, or so I gather. And why not Nigeria? I'm sure that the club will be putting something into the local community at the same time. As for playing Manu twice - it will be nice to have a chance to have a go at playing pretty football against them without having to sweat on the result, and enjoy it and see how we get on. Could be fun.

sorry, got carried away there. going to nigeria will be expensive - but there is nothing wrong with us trying to improve our fan base in africa. Man u seem to nick all the portugesses players, arsenal the french, liverpool the spanish (chelsea the expensive ones), so why not target taking the best african players?

I think they are going there because it is the only way that they can get Kanu to do any pre-season training :o) By the way, it was nice to meet Pompey4me at Wembley who recognised my Vital Pompey T shirt!

Almost there...stay on target

The win over Newport saw Pompey react well to the defeat to Stevenage with most results going in the Blues' favour too, meaning we've effectively got a seven point buffer on Boro.
