Mendes on dream come true

Much like it was for all of us, winning the FA cup with Pompey was also a dream come true for Pedro Mendes as he explained to sky sports: 'it's a fantastic day for everyone, for the players, for the staff and for the fans.

'It's a dream come true to be fair.

'At the start of the season we wanted to go as far as possible in this competition and to get to the semi-finals at Wembley and win, and then the final, it's really a dream come true.

'I think it is an achievement to celebrate because winning the FA Cup and not being one of the big four teams is really a great achievement.'

Mendes was a surprise inclusion for many, although I had this sneaky feeling that he would get the nod and I am delighted that he was - he also paid tribute to the support given at Wembley: 'it's an unbelievable stadium, playing in front of 90,000 people and so many of our fans.

'Our supporters did fantastic and were always behind us all the way.'

I thought that Mendes was top class on the day and more than justified his inclusion, and made me wonder once again just how much better we might have done had he played more this season as I feel he should have...

Sadly I still feel this will be his last involvement in a Pompey shirt - although I do not think it should be, but you could understand his reasons, he wants to play, he should play more but probably will not again next season - but what a way to go out eh!

it was a surprse to see mendes in the team - but a very nice surprise. he played very well, as he has done almost every time he has worn a pompey shirt - and if he does leave, it will be very disopointing, as i dont think he is worse than some of the other players we will probably keep.

Why do we get rid of players who always give 100%, and Mendes is class.

Pedro is a class player and always had time. HR made the right decision to play him and the right one to replace him with Papa when Cardiff started to by-pass him. Another player who would be a great asset in Europe.

A great surprise & a welcome one that Mendes played. He was solid & played well. His goals against Man City that started the revival to stay up are well documented. We wouldn't have had the weekend if he hadn't stayed up. I got so close to the bus on Sunday, that Pedro was about 10 feet away, I screamed, 'Thank you Pedro' & he looked me in the eye & acknowleged. Amazing stuff. I'm in my early 40s & I was acting like a little boy. All star struck. Emotionally still wrecked. Forever Pompey.

As everyone says - fantastic that he played! Well done Harry for not just sticking with your favourites.

Let's hope that he does stay on at least one more season to help with the extra games we will have.

Just reward for the man who started the great escape rolling...without his goal against Man City we wouldn't be where we are today -a top10 side & FA CUP WINNERS!!!

Excellent performance, excellent player and villa would be very lucky to have him.... hopefully a performance like that should make Harry think more than twice!

I love seeing the little figure of Mendes flying around the pitch. I think he is great. As someone else has already said, Why do we get rid of Players who always give 100%? I hope Pedro stays, we are going to need players like him.
