Kanu on King status, keeping going & a new deal

We carry on our 'reflections' of winning the cup by reading what Kanu had to say to sky sports after netting the goal that saw us crowned 2008 FA cup winners.

King Kanu, who has won just about everything that there is to win in the club game believes that winning the cup with us tops everything else: 'they call me king. I have to deliver and hopefully I did. I have to thank God - God made it possible for me to score.

'This is the best moment of my life. I started the game and I won the cup for Portsmouth. I have felt nothing like this.'

Earlier in the game some fantastic skill from Kanu saw him beat his marker, round the keeper but he could only hit the post... he could have let that beat him but he bounced back and he says his - and our attitude - not to give in made the difference in the end: 'I kept going, I kept my head down and I scored. You have to take your chance and that's what I did.

'Portsmouth is not one of the four big clubs, no-one could believe we were going to do it and we did it.'

With a place in next seasons uefa cup secure he is looking to play his part in our European tour, so he hopes he is able to get a new deal: 'I hope the fans, Harry, everyone at the club will remember this day and they are going to give me a contract.

'I love the supporters and I want to be part of the team that plays in the Uefa Cup.

'That is football, you keep waiting and finally you have to make a decision. I have got a one year contract ready. I will be here for another year.

'Being in Europe means a lot to the players because most of them haven't been there or won medals.'

Quite what the future will bring for Kanu I am unsure, and to be honest at this point of time very undecided... I just want us, and him to enjoy this moment for a while longer yet!

Now we have won the Cup- you weren't dreaming- and Kanu scored the only goal; do you still want him to leave?

I didnt really like the blatant emotioonal blackmail he tried on the club, but all the time he is in the limelight kids get heart ops in africa so i sort of understand his action. I think Crouch will replace Kanu, i think Kanu will get an extension but he will be a bencher mostly used for the european football campaign (OMG pompey are in Europe). He will get more time and his ability to fall over in the box will i think be succesfull.

...isnt it baros and nugent who fall over all the time? Kanus skills are simply weird. when he gets the ball, EVERYONE just slows down, and he just walks past players as if they arnt there. no need for fancy stepovers, or anything else. the only problem with him, is tht he can only play and train every other week ;-)

Chim chiminey, chim chiminey, chim chim cherru, who needs Wayne Rooney when we've got Kanu!

And what a goal celebration to go with it! King Kanu has still got the moves!

I was convinced that the goal had been disallowed as all I saw was the ref standing side on with his arm outstretched as though he had given a free kick; Kanu's stuttering moves left and right merely supported my thinking. It must have been a good 10 seconds before I realised what he had done.

King Kanu is after a three year deal!! And Tony most around us did not think it was a goal as we could not see the net move. It was a strange almost slow motion moment.

I have not been a great fan of Kanu - I have always thought him too slow. But he has delivered the goods - again. I couldn't believe it when I saw him streaking (well almost) up the pitch with the ball at one time!

I also think Crouch will come for 8m so Kanu will get a bit part next season, but lets barsk in the glory for the summer.

I think Kanu is slow but does what he is there for and is tricky. I don't think we will see Crouch at Pompey. Heskie (spelling?) is my bet to come here.
