'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Diarra targets 'special' cup win

Lassana Diarra has joined the growing band of Pompey players talking up our chances of winning the FA cup this weekend, but his thoughts were slightly difference than those of others.

He, like several of our current squad does already have a cup winner medal, although he has told the Pompey Site that should he win another on Saturday with us it will be extra special: 'I wouldn't say that we'll necessarily win this game just because we are in the Premier League and they are in the Championship.

'If they are in the final then they are obviously a good side, which is why we have to respect them and play our best football. If we do that though, then we can win.

'Last year I won the cup with Chelsea and this year I hope to win it again. I'm ready for this game and I feel good.

'Pompey haven't won a cup for a long, long time and this is why this year we want to win it for the fans.

'If we do win then it will definitely be very special for me.'

Another thing that I picked up on, well maybe even read between the lines of were his thoughts about our future, which did not seem to imply that he was thinking of moving on at all - maybe I was doing exactly that, reading between the lines? Maybe not: 'we have a good squad with good players and we're looking to win things and keep on improving every year.

'I'm very happy at Pompey. It's been really good here and everyone's been good with me and helped me to feel at home.'

Since this the French international is quoted as saying that he will be with Pompey next season!

Lets just hope that he is a man of his word eh...

I think it will be great if Diarra stays with us - I like him a lot. As for the Cup Final - I don't even want to think about losing, so if Diarra wants another medal, then thats fine by me. By the way, read somewhere that Portsmouth aren't playing Cardiff in the Cup Final - looks like we are playing Wales!

Lets hope he is a man of his words and that comments like the ones he has made will kepp the team together for next season.

We are all desperate to win as long time supporters, so here's hoping they go up a few gears & win it for us all.

same sort of thing he said in the sun ... although he slammed chelsea and arsenal for not playing him and he doesnt regret leaving them. i got the point that at only 23 we are the sixth club he has been at. but i see his side of the story. he wants 1st team football. if he aint getting it, he wants out. hes getting it here at pompey -- so no chance he will leave for now!!

him and harry clearly have a very special relationship ;-). i think we will be seeing diara next season in pompey kit, and hopefully, with a (second) FA cup winners medal!

he should have stayed with us - good player!

you never played him merlin - if he wanted to further his international career, he had to move on. who knew how long he would be left in the shadow of other players?
