James, Johnson and Defoe get the call

David James, Glen Johnson and Jermain Defoe have all been included in the latest England squad for the friendlies with the USA - 28th May - and Trinidad & Tobago - 1st June.

James has been in all of Fabio Capello's squads, starting both games while Johnson has been called, but was cut from the 31 for his first, but he did make a substitute appearance against the French. Defoe got a late call up to the squad for the Switzerland game but did not play and he was cut from his 31 against France.

Capello has again named 31 players, but it is not clear if he will again be 'trimming this' or if he will take all 31 players with him, which I would suspect he would.

Maybe this summer we could see 3 Pompey players all on the pitch for England at the same time? This could be unlikely but I would suspect that every member of the squad will get some action so all 3 'should' at least add to their caps tallies...

David James (Pompey), Joe Hart (Man City), Chris Kirkland (Wigan)

Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Man Utd), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Pompey), John Terry (Chelsea), Stephen Warnock (Blackburn), David Wheater (Middlesbrough), Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham)

Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), David Beckham (LA Galaxy), David Bentley (Blackburn), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Owen Hargreaves (Man Utd), Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Frank Lampard (Chelsea)

Pointless friendlies at the end of a long season. However, nice for the chaps to get recognised & hopefully get a kick about.

Just think if we get good old gangly legs into the team that would be 4 Pompey players in the England squad!
sneakay
Matt would have been more games IF we had qualified for Euro 2008.

glen johnson has easily been the best english right back in the league, and is competing - largely with sagna - for best right back. if he doesnt tart, i dont know what he will have to do. same goes for james - he has been truly immense this whole season, and easily won keeper of the year - no questions asked. defoe... his form has dipped after his amazing start. not sure if he will makehe final squad.

All well deserved, I feel Defoe is compeating directly with Owen otherwise he would have been given a run before now.

Agree with the Owen v Defoe angle Yong (good to meet you by the way) ... Can't wait to see three (or more) Pompey players in the same England starting line up.. we are not that far away are we ?
Chix
Thanks Chix & who knows if we get Crouch possibly a starting front line that would be something, brings back memories of Mark Hateley scoring for England
