'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Redknapp on our season

Harry Redknapp has spoken to the Pompey Site to reflect on the 2007/08 season: 'we've finished eighth in the Premier League and got to an FA Cup final. It doesn't get much better than that.

'We could have jumped up a place and finished seventh but a top-eight finish is brilliant really.

'It's the best year we've had in a while, certainly since Jimmy Dickinson was here.

'Every year Pompey were staying up in the Championship on the last day and now we're a top-half Premier League team with fantastic players. I hope all the fans can appreciate how well we've done.'

We have tailed off in the past 4 or 5 weeks but what a fantastic season we have had on the whole, with the ups and downs to have finished in 8th and be in the FA cup final is some achievement. When we win the cup next weekend it will go down as a great season!

All in all if we could have been offered this last August, who would not have taken it? I know it could, and maybe should have been better, but it could have always been much, much worse…

On the defeat to Fulham he said: 'it's great for Roy - they've done terrific to get themselves out of it. It's unbelievable when you look at where they've come from.

'They've won their last three away games - it's been a great run for them.

'But I couldn't really see them winning to be honest. I certainly couldn't see us getting beaten. I expected us to win and I thought we were much the better side.

'I thought we played some good football and I was really pleased with how we were playing, but then we didn't pick up from a set-piece and we got done.

'I get disappointed when we lose. I'm like everybody else - I get the hump.

'Pedro and Pamarot both came in and did well. I came in at half-time and thought 'not a problem' and that it was only a matter of time before we stuck one away.

'But that's how it goes. Anyone who thought we played badly was watching a different game.'

It was a disappointing way to end the season, I was gutted to see us lose again but the effort cannot really be faulted, the fact that we do not seem to be able to create anything is though, and the fact that we looked so rocky at set pieces once again is a concern - but one I feel we will get right next week.

All in all, look at it this way guys would you have rather been in Fulham's position at the weekend or the one we were in... simple to answer that really isn't it, so lets appreciate what we have, even if we are a touch disappointed too.

An added comment Russell would say that this student is capable of better. Full concentration should be applied through out the season. Support from home has not been quite as good as in previous years - more help on singing required!

Strange tho, because I know where we are, and where we were etc etc, but the brand of football has changed, and it just doesn't feel so exciting! Yep, 8th in the league, I'm ecstatic, FA cup final, I was on cloud 9. But now, I feel so nervous about it. These boys have got to make chances, play with the attitude we know they can. People like Utaka and Kranjcar HAVE to step up to the plate and deliver. 1 up front, we know that's how it will be, so the midfield have to support him, get past him even, and that hasn't happened for a long time.

*most supporters failed there DT lessons - they failed to make good fans. they also need to put some more work into history classes, as as they failed that exam.

I think it has been another great season, just a lack of goals at the end is left it a little flat, but a win on saturday will make it better than great.

Good season all things considered - Who would have turndown 8th and a cup final appearance at the start of the season ?.. Highlights were James' Defoe, Diarra, Distin, Newcastle away, Reading and Man Utd in the Cup. Lowlights Boro home and away, Utaka, Nugent, Diop, and the selling of Taylor (Pens and Crosses) , GON (Right sided player with work rate) and Benjani (work rate and pride)
Chix
Nice sum up Chix so to the final Portsmouth 3 Cardiff 0 goals-Utaka,Nugent & Diop from 35yds that would leave us gob smacked. Iwonder what odds you could get on that
