Campbell 'rumours' rumble on...

Campbell 'rumours' rumble on...

'The Sol Campbell to leave Pompey this summer' talk took another turn today with Pompey's director of communications Gary Double quoted by the Daily Express as saying: 'the assessment of Luisao is very good. Campbell will leave and Luisao is Redknapp's preference for the defence.

'We have already spoken to Benfica and they have set the fee at £12million as a starting point for negotiations'.

Hmm, interesting, yet to be honest I find it hard to believe that these thoughts are true as this is not the way Pompey handle transfers anymore. Perhaps in the past things like this might have occurred, but we are a much more organised and professional unit on the whole these days.

Everything else aside, lets be realistic here we are not going to pay £12m for a defender are we... are we?

Double has since countered these 'allegations' by telling The News: 'I have been totally misquoted.

'It is this club's policy not to discuss transfers'.

In all honesty I feel, and have felt for several months that Campbell will leave this summer, but the 'alledged quotes' also came in articles that said he was out of contract this summer, and as far as I am aware he will still have a year to run on his deal anyway - the suggestion is that he may be allowed to leave on a free though...

Players will leave this summer, and plenty will also arrive and maybe Luisao could be one of them, but at a cost of £12m I would be surprised.

Campell needs to go, he is not the steadying influence on or off the field that he should be.

bit harsh 007, agreed he is not the man he was, but just when you doubt him he comes in and does something brilliant. I think he will leave, and yes he does a year left, in on a free, out on a free though i suspect, and with Harrys best wishes too i also suspect. nice bloke, great influence, great credit to himself, pompey and England. and Mrs Sol had a Pop at Boring Spice... respect lol.

I don't have a problem if Sol wants to leave. As long as he lifts the FA Cup aloft, he can do what suits him. He will be immortalised for that moment alone. No doubt we can find a very suitable partner for Distin anyway. Also we could have Linvoy back.

Will definitely leave if we don't lift the cup; will probably leave if we do. He'll go with my blessing but I do admit to flinching more and more every time he goes near the ball. I don't want to remember him when he is well past his best.

I think he will leave, and I think we have Mensah to replace him as a done deal already. I can't believe we would spend £12 million on a defender though it would be nice. Does he come with diamond coated boots for that price?

agree, i doubt he will stay, as he has been less than perfect this season, and we will want to remember him for the good things, not the bad! but 12 million for a defender??? he'd better be bl****y good for that!

Rumours every window about Sol not sure on this why extend if your thinking of leaving. If he does possible Mensah or Luisao I don't think we would get both but would be nice could use Distan at left back too& still have Herman. Ohh stop dreaming,& up Front stop now!
