'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Now that is how to promote a new shirt!

Although to be honest my opinion is that shirts should not be changed every year, as they seem to be doing so with us now, you cannot knock the way Pompey are promoting the new away shirt!

I do not live in Pompey anymore but I was just phoned by pompey4me who told me a huge shirt - 180 x 120 foot apparently, as I have just heard Lucius Peart tell The Quay - is flying over Pompey to promote it, on what is a glorious day too...

If you are out and about in Pompey today get some photos if you can and forward them to me and/or put them in the Albums forum so others can see it.

The shirt is white again has blue sleeves, a blue collar and gold strips down the side apparently and has the brand new crest, which has been worked on for several months - if/when I am able to get hold of any images of the kit and crest I will get them on the site.

We will be using this new shirt for the first time this weekend against Fulham, so they will have to change from their traditional white.

PLAY UP POMPEY!

UPDATE: An image of the new away shirt has just been made available to me, so here it is

Home shirt in white and a "mid season" change????
UKTony
No - It's the new away shirt (2nd shirt, as we may have a European one as well) for next season.
sneakay
What time is it flying? i'll keep an eye out and get some photo's but as i work in doors, i need an idea of times so i can have an extended 4 hour lunch break lol
Midge
It's awful, looks like a cricket shirt.

The home kit's all blue with gold trimmings.
stillthewhizz
Matter of opinion i think... i actually like it, its better than i thought it would be. the creast can be seen here Mr Rug. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/Pompey-unveils-new-crest-for.4049688.jp
Midge
If it's the away shirt, why will we wear it on saturday?
UKTony
well no one will wear it on saturday... as we arent playing until sunday are we :-)
its a publicity thing isnt it, wear the new away shirt - even tho we are at home - to try and sell a few more...
pompeyrug
i will tell you what i dont like... the new crest, maybe it'll look better when it isnt an image on a screen, but i dont particularly like it tbh, what was wrong with the 'traditional' old english style portsmouth fc font?
pompeyrug
So when do we get to see the new shirt? Nort too sure about the new crest. Although to be honest it's all about the team in the shirt rather than the shirt itself
sneakay
Also - Does anyone know when the OKI deal runs out? I have heard some rumours that we are going to be sponsored by the company that own Holiday Inn.....(goes to look it up on Google).....IHG
sneakay
Well it certainly doesn't end for next season. I can tell you the new badge looks fine on the kit - it's just the kit. Argh.

It's ok i supose. Don't know about that collar though. Will there be a new home kit?
Mikettb
Big publicity, big money and can be seen in Cosham as I write.
eastneydave
if only i was in cosham now instead of being their this time next week i wouldve seen the shirt specially made for mbesuma!
pompeyrug
Doesn't look bad, although I have just spoken to a mate of mine who got a close up of the flying shirt as it went by his office window and he said it had P&O on the front and not OKI. Either that is true or he needs his eyesight testing as it is quite clear that OKI is on the font in the picture and I thought it was confirmed OKI ould be our sponsor again for the 08/09 season??
blarmy
Also notice that the away shorts are white. I wonder if that means home shorts will be blue as we wore in the semi final.
pompeygaz
what you think we might switch to a permanent blue shorts at home next season pompeygaz? - welcome to vital by the way, same to you Mikettb...
pompeyrug
im pretty sure its safe to say OKI will be our shirt sponsors again next season...
pompeyrug
Just a thought Rug! Thanks for the welcome. Long time visitor, first time poster.
pompeygaz
blarmi, he needs an eye test!! That said OKI in 300ft tall letters!
pompey4me
it soon becomes a habit mate, vital pompey is much like pringles, once you start you cant stop - and also like pringles we have a wide range of flavours to cater for all :-) i think i've promoted 'pringles' enough dont you... now were is that all you can eat endorsement from 'pringles'...
pompeyrug
Oh fashion, it's a bitch ain't it.
storagematt
I can see the cricket comment now - very true. It looks like something from the Indian Premier League. I like it though, it's got a sort of summery feel to it. Still not convinced by the new badge though.

So if it is released on Thursday does that mean it will be delivered in time for Sunday's game? It would be strange to see the Pompey crowd turn up in mainly white!
sneakay
I don't like Pringles :)
UKTony
No doubt the home kit will go blue ith white trim. The crest seems like what we had late 80s early 90s.
storagematt
if u look on the pompey website ... which is being updated for the new logo/kit. the logo is on there. i thought about it and ... i like it! :)
pompey--pessimist
for all those interested, its up on website now: www.store.portsmouthfc.co.uk
pompey--pessimist
ok...i like the shirt - i hate the logo. cant put it more simly than that really...although having said that, i did think our logo was too "friendly" to be taken seriously...
pompeycarpet
Yes I would say its a good bet home kit to be all blue I can't see Canterbury not cashing in Last years shorts were cheep with an iron on transfer type crest hope next seasons are a lot better. not so keen on the new crest but getting used to it after a few hours, Last years still 100% better, shirt looks better than I expected. .
pompeyyong
it was only the other day when i realised that we didnt have any white socks, now we do. it makes sense that we would be in all blue next season, esp seeing as thats what we are wearing in the final. i like all blue, but we only see it away to liverpool and arsenal (maybe man u too)
