'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Riise on the radar plus other 'rumours'

Another day, more 'rumours', some fresh, some just the same old same old...

A new one - well at least I think it is new - is John Arne Riise to Pompey in a summer move, well according to The Daily Mail anyway.

Reports in other papers are saying that he has been told he can leave Liverpool, but most of these say that he is being offered in part exchange for Gareth Barry.

I was just saying to a friend the other night - who is a Liverpool fan - that as much as Riise is ridiculed for the wage slip thing, the own goal against Chelski and his shots with a lack of a goals challenging even Papa Bouba Diop this season I would happily have him at Pompey if we could get him. He could play at left back or on the left side or midfield and would certainly be a quality addition to our squad, most probably starting 11 in my own thinking.

Other 'rumours' doing the rounds again today are links to Peter Crouch - today it is £8m and a £4m annual salary for the striker that will bring him back to the South Coast. Newcastle, Citeh and Boro are also 'interested', but should be beatable to his signature you would think, particularly if we win the cup...

One man on his way out, according to The Sun is Noe Pamarot with Celtic preparing a £2m bid this summer.

I would like to keep him but believe that he is entering into the final year of his contract, so if this amount is offered then I think we could quite possibly cash in, and from his point of view with the added incentive of quite probably getting regular football, and of course champions league football he could well be more than a little tempted.

Looks like your links are going to match our links this summer, that shows that Pompey are now 'in the mix' as you were never mentioned with the likes of Villa before (ie the chasing pack!). Crouch and Riise have both been linked with Villa a good few times. How is Defoe working out by the way, still shocked we didn't try for him as well, think he'd have got us 4th because at the time our strikers wouldn't have been able to score in a brothel for love nor money!
The Fear
'arry keeps saying 'it'll be a quiet summer' but im not so sure - i hope we get it out the way early tho, riise and crouchy would be a good start for me - and it looks like crouchy is coming back.
defoe has gone a bit quiet recently tbh, he started like a house of fire, but i reckon the fact that he cannot play in the cup final is now playing on his mind more and more - he needs a more creative influence to help him out too, give him the chances and he will score, but if we cannot create them he wont... crouchy and defoe next season will work very well i reckon.
the likes of pompey, villa and so on have to keep growing, as we are the teams that can close the gap on the 'top 4!'

If you make the assumption that we are going to get into Europe (a reasonable assumption) and think that we will need 3 extra players in addition to what we already have; then you have to also think that if overall we lose 8 players from the present squad, we are going to need 11 new players. I don't think that is an unrealistic figure if we accept what has been reported about players leaving or being let go. 11 new players is not a quiet transfer period by anyones standards and I can't see it being far away from what we will need.

news website says we are going to offer crouch £75000 a week plus nathan dyer from scum who is otu of contract but because of his age would require compensation like cranie last year . I think most people would like crouch here but not to sure about dyer never really seen him play and not the most popular person in pompey after the handbags at bar blue. what does everyone think?
knocker
im a fan of dyers i must admit, what i have seen i like - i dont like his more unsavory habit tho! if the price is right bring him in, crouchy will be back this summer im almost certain...
pompeyrug
Crouch would be great with Defoe. Would need to make sure the supply was there for them. It would mean 442, I can't see a 451 with them 2 at the helm. A lot of shaking for next season again. Not sure about Riise.
storagematt
Crouch maybe, Riise no chance
Mikettb
I'd love to see Crouch and Defoe up front. Dyer? One for the future..maybe Harry can nurture him and get the best out of him. Riise...isn't he past his best? Not sure.

risse isnt looking so good this season. last season, yes, this season...no thanks. (too fat, too much like diop, not enough controll, and definatly would not compliment kranjcar). Crouch on the other hand, i am really warming too - and "the fear" - the links between him and us are MUCH stronger than the links between him and you...(mostly saying he has already signed). crouch also worked well in 4-5-1 against arsenal...
pompeycarpet
I agree carpet I've seen many links with Crouch with us, Onlly Martin O'Neil saying Liverpool offerd them a mish mash of players for 10m rated Barry then papers came out with various names including Crouch & Rise. Crouch & Defoe yes & 4-5-1 4-3-3 no problem

I aint passing any comments who is a good player and who is'nt after saying publicly that i thought that Baros was the real deal
plymouth graham
at least you didnt publicly back him as the real deal in articles mate... i think i did several times :-) baros wont be here next season will he, he works hard, creates space for others but cant finish for *****!
pompeyrug
No mention from Harry about keeping Baros or Aubey so I think they will both be on their way home.
frattonaussie
Baros' first touch is rubbish and his finishing even worse. His histrionics and posturing get right up my nose. Get rid please 'arry.
