Paul Robinson to Pompey? The West Brom one

Reports in the Daily Mirror today are claiming that Pompey are interested in making a £1.5m move for West Brom captain Paul Robinson this summer.

He is very much in the mould of Hermann Hreidarsson in as much that he is also tough tackling left back, but for me, although he a few years younger at 29 he would still not be that marked improvement that we should be looking for in a new left back - not that this is even an area of the highest priority to be honest.

Robinson is a decent defender and if we did move for him we would get a player that is 100% committed 100% of the time, which is something we love at Pompey but without being harsh he is hardly that 'top quality player' type that we have been told would arrive this summer is he...

The same paper has again linked us with Pascal Chimbonda, with it claimed he has been told he has no future with Spurs, so we are now involved in a 'tug of war' with Villa for him.

I am still undecided on the fella to tell the truth, but if Villa won this tug of war I do not think I would be overcome with grief or disappointment at missing out on him if I am completely honest.

PLAY UP POMPEY!

He's a thug & an average one at that. We can do much, much better. HH can give us another season. Noe can do a job there & Auby looks ok. More paper bolloxs.

some brit grit ... could be good. as for chimbonda, why not?
pompey--pessimist
Not the sort of player we want to be attracting - fairly effective at Champ level, sussed out at Prem level.

I have decided that I want to work for the Mirror, in the sports department. All your job would involve is making up stories! The Mirror are THE WORST paper for just making up crap! I don't believe a single word that they come out with.
sneakay
Sneakay are you telling me that "Garth" and "Jane" were made up stories?. Not too many on Vital will understand that. Old has some satisfaction.
007
I agree with Matt. The guy is a thug and mediocre in terms of talent. What about Fritz the dog, 007, are you saying the Mirror made that up too?

What there politics page ain't true either?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

storagematt
seriously, i dont like the sound of that. would much rathr play aubeuy than robinson!
pompeycarpet
I don't think we should be messing with our defence, that is, if they are all staying?
Gandor
Ditto to all the above Aubey would be in front of him & has youth on his side also Hermans done well then theres pamarot & Lauren. So I guess its a no thanks from me.

Harry gave his first indication today that he is giving preference to English players this transfer period coming. I said at the start of the year that Sasha would stop most of Harry's future African deals in favor of being "politically correct" and having a higher number of English and European players in the squad. There will be a number of good English and European players available in the summer so this change of direction won't hurt us. Although we have had success with some African players we have also had some who have little heart or work ethic. Hreidarsson has prove a solid capable player but when he was signed I remember most supporters were against him coming. If Robinson does come here then it will be interesting to see the future comments. If Harry is true to form then none of the players he has been linked with will come here and he has other players lined up that no one has mentioned yet. I think he will go after players from Spurs, Man C, Bolton, and Wigan.

ok robinson is english, which is a good thing as i too would like to see more english players in our squad - and that is what he will be 'a squad player' - but you cannot tell me that robinson would be an improvement on what we have? he may well do a job, but he isnt a forward movement...

Redknapp has been quoted in saying he would love to sign Crouch, but he wouldn't come here. I think Pompey's doorways in the new training ground will be higher than usual

Kevin Nolan anyone?
