'If It's Football, It's Vital'

What does the future hold for Baros?

What is Milan Baros' future with Pompey?

Depending on where you read it some believe that Harry Redknapp is 'hinting at him staying', whereas others are merely saying that 'he will be getting another chance this weekend', which more than seems the case with what he told The News: 'I like Milan. We'll just have to wait until the summer to see what he wants to do. There's every chance he'll play on Saturday.

'He's a good trainer, a good lad and a good professional.

'He's a clever player.

'He's played at the top level and he'll be playing in the European Championships in the summer for the Czech Republic'.

I have absolutely no doubt that Baros will start this weekend against Boro, and this is how it should be.

Should we go with the lone man, even though it would mean Jermain Defoe missing out, with the cup final in mind and Baros needing time on the pitch it would have to be done. To be honest even if we go with two up top as lethal as Defoe is, and as much as I really do believe we must still keep our eye on the league I think that Dave Nugent should then maybe even start alongside Baros for the same reasons.

Baros has been a willing runner for us, his effort, movement and ability to create space is fantastic, absolutely top class for me but his inability to score is a major, major concern. I have gone backwards and forwards on the 'should we sign him' thoughts but at this point in time I am leaning more towards no to be honest...

If he can score that first goal it may well open the floodgates, but at the moment he just does not look like scoring that first goal no matter how much time he has.

For work ethic and that ability to manoeuvre himself that space between defenders he would be well worth signing, but as this signing would probably set us back 6m or thereabouts it seems a bit of a 'risk' and a lot to pay for me, even though he has that proven quality.

The price is a big factor with Baros. If we got him for 2 to 3 million then he is worth the gamble but at 6 million I think we can do better.

2m-3m and i would bite lyon's hand off as it wouldnt even be a risk for me, as said 6m - as hard as he has been working and i cannot stress enough his ability to create himself space is fantastic - is too much...

In the short term, he is playing & that benefits him & the club. He has a fantastic chance of winning an FA Cup winners medal which would benefit him & the club. Long term, not sure? Price yes, squad player yes. Ideally sort it out before the euros start if we want a low buying price.

Baros gives 100% and never stops running. Utaka gives little and never starts running. Guess who we paid 7 million for?.

I agree with OO7. Baros works his socks off but unfortunately does not seem to be able to score. One minute I think we need an out and out striker and the next minute I think who is going to feed them the ball if we get rid of the likes of Baros. Some of our other players seem to have a lot of off days, and some of them just don't seem to be bothered at times. I'm not talking about the defence, who I can't really fault.

Peter crouch seems to be a target, also other strikers rumoured Olic again today, & Portos Argentine striker to name a few, so it may depend on if any of thease actualy happen or not, Baros plus one other possibly? All depends on Harry we have Defoe, Nugent, & Kanu thats 3, 4 if he plays Utaka up front, so how does Harry see it?.

utaka will be staying - no question about it. and i cant ee how anyone can fault his early season form, or his form now - he has been good against city and blackburn. although for now i would question his fitness. baros on the other hand, has shown that fitness is not a problem. what he does find a problem though is that round thing, and what your meant to do with it. i know people say we gave benjanini time - but we cant sit here waiting on 2 centre forwards, and i would rather sit and weight on nugent!

i think you are doing baros and injustice carpet, im undecided on the fella, i do like him and he words his arse off and his qualities are that good he should have gone down as a 'great player' but his goalscoring ability lets him down. baros has only been here since january but pound for pound im not sure you can say that utaka has had 'much more' of an impact - yep his early season form was fantastic, and recently he's been good but for about 5 months in between he may as well not have even been here...
with all this said utaka will be here next season - and i hope he will be more consistent - but i do not think baros will...

I'd love to keep Baros. Dont know enough about european football to know what else is around for the same money, but I dont think (in todays mad mad football culture) that 6 mill is o.t.t. for the guy. I think he looks good with defoe, leave Jermaine up top where he is best and let baros do all the running and work for him, never did Benji any harm. So, I'm in the Baros camp.
pompey4me
More to come from Utaka of that I am sure, as for Baros I am another who is unconvinced, We will have to trust Harry on that one
paultsmouth
I'm not sure that HR is not just talking Utaka up in readiness to offload him in the summer break for a higher price or for a swap or part exchange deal.
frattonaussie
Paul, Utaka could not possibly give any less!
pompey4me
Baros not good today times running out for him 2 more games max to show he's worth keeping.
