'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Arry on Blackburn defeat

Harry Redknapp told sky sports after our defeat to Blackburn yesterday that he felt we were unfortunate to be beaten: 'we didn't deserve to lose.

'I felt in the first half we were the better team. We came in at half time and I felt comfortable with the way we had played. I thought we knocked it around well and had a couple of opportunities'.

I cannot disagree with him at all as for the vast majority of the game I do believe that we were the better side.

Our complete and utter lack of width and creativity in the middle of the park along with the failure to create clear cut openings - due to these facts - and take those half chances that we did have is what cost us. All in all though I do feel we were really unlucky not to get anything, but Blackburn took the chance they had...

Had it not been for a lapse in concentration defensively Redknapp believes we would have got a point at least: 'it looked a certain draw to me. I couldn't see us getting beaten, but we defended badly for the goal.

'They took that opportunity and we missed the good opportunities we had'.

I hate losing anytime, but with the way results went again this weekend a victory would have kept us firmly in the hunt for 5th place. As it is technically we can still achieve this but it is a very long shot now.

My main concern now is finding some momentum to carry forward to the FA cup final. I know people say it is a one off game so form counts for nothing, but if we go into this with a bad run of results against us this will count for something, so hopefully we can end the league season on a high with victories over Boro and Fulham...

Harry was right to experiment with the line up win or lose. We had only a small chance of finishing 5th and with the increasing likelyhood of Kranjcar, Mendes and Davis leaving in the summer, he needed to know who could fill some of the positions and where we need new faces. Now we all know and can look on with interest.

yep its a small chance now but i dont agree it was a small chance anyway - victory yesterday would have taken us above villa and just 2pts behind everton who have arsenal and newcastle to play - not a small chance if you ask me tbh... as i say it clearly is a very, very small chance now.
was he really 'experimenting' with the line-up tho? he just wanted to rest kranjcar, jamo was injuried, davis has been out in the cold for weeks and mendes was 'said' to be injured. even if he was then if/when these players go he will not be using what he has - he will bring in replacments.

Can't help thinking that if we are keeping an eye on the final, Denied, but true, play the likes of Aubey, Davis, Mendes, Songo'o and Mvuemba, they have points to prove and if they get injured or suspended it won't have an impact on the final, you never know they might earn some points!
paultsmouth
songo'o is on loan - couldnt play him - but the others i agree with. play them for the last couple of games, do our best to keep kranjcar, diara etc, and lets hope david james recovers! e were very unlukcly not to win, as we did play the better football, and creat the better chances, but when we played againjst them earlier, it was the exact oposite...

sonog'o will be back for the final game, so i guess technically he could feature in that fixture...
