Storrie - three big names will arrive!

Prepare for a summer of quality entrances to Fratton Park for next season guys, as Peter Storrie has 'promised' that at least three top class footballers will sign for Portsmouth Football Club!

Clearly some players will also leave, with Djimi Traore nailed on and Sean Davis and Pedro Mendes sadly looking as if they will go, with one or two 'fringe' players also looking surplus to requirement too, but 'if' players do leave then they will also be replaced.

Spurs defender Younes Kaboul, Rennes forward Jimmy Briand and the excellent Porto striker Lisandro Lopez are just some of the names being 'linked' but Peter Crouch and John Mensah are the ones that are most heavily, and most frequently been touted - I think myself that Mensah is a done deal and my thinking is that Crouch is not far off being cast iron too...

This is what Storrie did tell The News: 'I think the squad is strong at the moment but I think of the current squad we are probably looking at bringing in another three.

'One or two may want to go. That tends to happen when people are not in the team regularly, so obviously there could be more than that if others leave.

'But we are looking at three and have already been working on a few - you'll hear all about those in the summer. These are big names. We're bringing in only quality players now.

'We are a quality side, we are a top-10 side, so it's only going to be quality people coming in.

'It's important we keep strengthening what is already an excellent squad so we can continue progressing. And that means bringing in even more quality players'.

This summer promises to be yet another exciting one for Pompey. Sure, we will be 'linked' to name after name and many will not come off but all the signs seem to be pointing positively towards some top class talent arriving to supplement what is already a fantastic squad.

My one hope is that we do not see wholesale changes, as the nucleus of the squad must stay in tacked and be built on, a mass exodus and rebuild will undo the good work started - building on the foundations already in place is the key, and in all honesty apart from moves to 'the top 4' clubs, moves for any of our top players to anyone else would merely be a sideways step...

Please don't think I've lost the plot but that last remark about Henry may not be so far wide of the mark. You'll think I'm barking but just wait and see if there isn't at least some speculation about Henry in the next few weeks.

OK, here's the deal. Barca want Diarra; so we let him go in exchange for Gudjohnsen and Henry (the latter was mentioned this morning on various radio stations as possibly wanting to return to England).

hmmm, that would be a tough decision ninjatim...but i reckon they might haveto throw in messi too if they want diara!!! actually, in all honesty, i am slightly confused as to what makes a "big name signing". Peter crouch, the england "regular"? john mensah, the ghana international? or are we more talking the likes of ronaldinho, henry, shevshenko - past world player of the year awards? (ok, thats a little extreme). i know mensah sounds good, but if it is even being SUGGESTED that rennes want to swap him for traore, there must be something wrong there...

Bonjour Monsieur Henry! It won't be the first time he's worn a Pompey shirt at Fratton Park will it? Crouch would be a good signing too, do you think he got that name because that's what he has to do every time he goes through a door?

If we get Lenny Henry, we'd have to sell 15 players just to cover his weekly wage!! Bet he goes to either Chelski or the Hammers, they're the only two idiots brave/daft enough to go to that amount. He won't go back to The Arse or God forbid the Yids, and I can't see The Orient mortgaging Their place

If we can keep Diarra and Krancjar, and assuming that two of the three are Crouch and Mensah, then I'd call that a good summer, even if the third player really does turn out to be Lenny Henry. If we keep Nugent as well, I'll consider that a very nice summer indeed.

I bet we bring in more than three with HR's wheeling and dealing but if we are in Europe we will need a bigger squad so maybe an increase of three is likely.

I don't mind how many new players we have next year, but for goodness sake, lets hope Harry can get them to work TOGETHER! It seems to me (and what do I know about football) that the players we have (apart from the back four) really haven't knitted together. I don't think that Defoe has really gelled with anyone yet (maybe Baros - but he will be going won't he)? Am I wrong??? or what?

I agree Gandor. I have said several times during the season that they seem like they train as a defence, midfield and attack and never actually get together as a team until match day. Who and how many players we get in the summer will depend on who goes and how much we get for them. Sasha will still want to balance the books so if HR spends 25 million, Sasha will be looking to get at least 15 million back from departing players so who will go to get that sort of money. My bet is on Niko. HR will also add to the squad with some free transfers. Baros and Aubey seem as though they will be going. I would have liked to see Aubey stay as I think he could be very good.

Harpo Zeppo Chico - aas long as Nugent goes and we see the back of baros I'm happy, PBD also as he cant hit a barn door. Deffo wnat to see some big names when we win the FA cup - if we cant draw them now, we never will

Carps & Rug, thinking of Jan Vinegar of Sealink and talking of big names; here's an idea for a new thread (Rug, I guess you'll want to move this) Who, past or present, has the longest name in football? Can anyone beat Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira?
