5th place is now out of reach...

5th place is now out of reach...

Pompey will not be able to finish 5th now, not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I do not entirely agree with just yet...

The weekend defeat to Citeh leaves 5th place looking tough now, particularly with Villa bang in form and looking to have the much 'easier' run in - on paper anyway…

Villa and Everton meet this weekend, so if that ends in a draw and we beat Blackburn that would again see us above Villa and only 2pts behind Everton and with their fixtures I would fancy us to overturn this gap to be honest.

So it is all 'ifs', 'ands' or 'buts' at the moment but 'if' we win the weekend and Villa and Everton take points off each other then although we would still be behind Everton even 'if' we beat Blackburn it would be as near to 'in our own hands' as it could be, and going into the final weekend of games this could be completely the case...

Again it all boils down to 'how much we want it' to a degree, and although it is looking unlikely I am not giving up these thoughts myself that we can take 5th!

What the poll asked - Can we finish in 5th?

How you voted - No 68%, Yes 32%

Current Poll - Niko Kranjcar is being 'linked' with a summer move away, with Arsenal a 'reported' destination.

The general feeling is that despite his quality the 'top' clubs in England would not make a move for Kranjcar this summer, but you can never say never so 'could' he be tempted to move on - this is what the landlords brother wants to know with this - 'Can you see Niko Kranjcar leaving this summer?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

The problem is that it is in our own hands and the way we have been playing lately I can't see us even getting a point at home to the Burners. They will be fired up after taking a point from Manure and probably feeling like they got robbed, so I imagine they will be gunning for three points from us. It would be in honesty, nice if the team decided to turn up for the first 20 mins of the game, which over the last month or so they seem to have been incapable of. It's not so much Play Up Pompey, but Wake Up Pompey of late!

This will be tough one with Blackburn. They are a good team & more than capeable of beating us, especially if we play 'keystone cops' football. To be honest, I'm only interested in winning the cup, the league games are no longer life & death matches as before. We need to get the systems right, players fit & no silly injuries or suspensions. Getting fifith was always a big ask & may have jeopordised a fresh team for the cup final.

yep, i know the cup final is the most important thing but we should be capable of playing the final 3 games, and playing them well - if were to going to bother then we may as well put in more fringe/reserve players as whats the sense in 'risking' 1st teamers if the will to win isnt there? which i think it still is, at least i would hope so anyway...

The trouble is we're still not used to being at such giddy heights in the league....at least when we were deep in the relegation quagmire you could guarantee everyone would play their hearts out. Obviously everyone is really getting excited about the final as it drifts ever closer, but can they keep their professionalism and see out the remaining games in style?
