Timely injury boost for Pompey!

Timely injury boost for Pompey!

John Utaka, Lassana Diarra and Milan Baros have all returned to training and could play a part against Citeh on Sunday.

I would expect Diarra to return to the starting 11 but have this feeling that Baros will have to settle for a place on the bench as Kanu will probably play alongside Jermain Defoe - assuming we play with a 4-4-2 of course? To be honest I would like to see Dave Nugent get a start alongside him but that is not that likely to happen is it...

As for Utaka, all in all he has had a poor season whatever spin you try to put on it. He has shown flashes of genius but these have been all to few and far between and for the most part has been like a passenger, which is not what you can afford and is not what we demand from our players is it! Effort and commitment goes along way to winning us over.

That said all the others that have filled in - or attempted to fill in - on the right have not been able to do it. Some look 'awkward' to say the least, others try but cannot do it so as frustrating as he has become to me this season he would have to be the option on the right for me to be honest. So if fit enough I would expect Utaka to start.

A further injury boost is the news that Noe Pamarot could return to training tomorrow, albeit only in the warm up and with the ball work exercises. His chances of being able to play again this season would still appear to be slim but you never know...

Good comment Rug, would'nt be lovely for Nugent to play a full league game. I think if he was told before the match he was to play the whole 90 mins, his play would benefit.

yep, we want 5th place, and yep i want us to win week in week out but we really have to start thinking more and more about the cup final now dont we - baros and nugent need game time to work on their sharpness and 'hopefully' even get some goals to breed confidence - they wont get this sat on the bench... kanu - altho im not best pleased with this tbh - is a near shoe-in for a final place regardless isnt he so we may as well sit him on the bench for the next 4 games really.

i am sure redknapp will play kanu as lone striker in 4-5-1 formation at wembley if utaka stays fit. On sunday we need to get at them early but who would not bet against benji scoring against us!!!!!!!!!!!!!

utaka needs some games, nugent needs some games, i have gone off baros, as unlike benjani, nugent and other players we have "given time"too, he hasnt shown "flashes of class", a great work ethic, and we havnt already bouht him...let him go... in the mea time, give some of our younger players a run out in the squad, like mvuemba and cranie - we havnt got much too loose now (other than the fa cup)

It is just good to have an almost fully fit squad at this important game of the season. Just gonna watch Toffees v Chelski - if Everton pick up three points then I would agree with carpet give the youngsters a chance as 5th becomes very difficult.

Hooray......Utaka is back! *sarcasm*
17/04/2008 20:41:00
5th is still very much on now isnt it fellas, grant did us a favour - we must beat citeh, if we do i think weve got 5th place tbh...
17/04/2008 23:37:00
Diarra is our key player. Not sure you want him being kicked about. Large amounts of cotton wool please. Utaka is worth a run out for the last 2 games. Shame we can't rest Sol & Distin.
