'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Redknapp hopeful of keeping Niko

Niko Kranjcar has grabbed plenty of headlines for club and country this season and the 'apparent' interest in him is 'said' to be growing and growing - so offers could come in for him this summer?

Even if they do Harry Redknapp has told The News that he hopes he will stay with us as we can offer him as much as most other clubs, a select few aside: 'hopefully we can keep hold of him. He's happy here and we are playing great football.

'The European Championships are coming up and he's got a Cup final to play.

'The club's moving forwards, so everything is here for him. '

Should Kranjcar perform well at Euro 2008 the interest would no doubt grow yet further, but I cannot see why we should not be able to keep hold of him. He is happy, we are happy - simple as. Granted he will want to test himself at the very, very highest level but what is the hurry?

Everyone has a price and if the price is right he 'could' be sold, but hopefully we keep him and as many other of our top players as maintaining continuity will be essential to our continued progress, without this we cannot carry on our moves forward.

Also speaking of Redknapp he has began court actions against the police for his arrest in November. He was furious at the time - and justifiably so as I fully believe he did no wrongdoing at all in that instance - as he believes that cost him the England job, and that is putting aside the way he and his family were treated!

The first hearing takes place early in May. Selfish as it sounds I hope that this does not have any negative impact on the rest of our season and of course the FA cup final, which as we know takes place on May 17th.

Can't see Niko leaving for a top Prem club, his skill levels are high, but lack of pace will count against him

Spot on Paul! We need to keep players like Niko.
eastneydave
paultsmouth, agreed. I cannot understand "HR"s continued comments about hoping to keep him, its almost like an advertisement to sell him. I think "HR" is making a mistake taking court action against the police at this stage. He should wait until the charges are dropped or at least clarified.
007
A player you certainly should keep!
Fan of Blues
God i hope we keep him, but he needs to lose a couple of pounds as he's looking a little on the "content" side of life!
pentonpompey
true...maybe he does need to do a bit of work on his sprinting...
pompeycarpet
always thought he was a cheeky player in more ways than one.
essientric
Hopefully we are becoming the level of club that can keep quality players like Niko, because I can only see him getting better. As for Arry's action against the police, good on him, good luck, I'm suprised it took him this long. The way they went in to his home with press in tow was disgraceful.
tracyc
yes we need Niko's creativity and goals cos without Defoe we dont carry too much of a threat if any, infact i wish he could take papabouba quashie's shots. 007 i couldnt disagree with you more about the legal case, i think he should do it, how hypocritical fof the CoL police to arrest Haryy on charges when they are clearly corrupt themselves and sold the story to News international inc. It's clearly been eating at Redknapp it was timed to damage him for the england position to the point where he couldnt function, we lost points and nearly left. I have always been a bit cynical about his self publicising but i have a great deal of respect for him fo doing this and wish him success.
russellm
from the typing you may be able to tell i have been drinking on the flight home
russellm
Vats alroite russ, oive been drinkin at ome

Niko will stay I'm sure (well I hope) as although he has improved a great deal this season he's not yet the finished product and as Rug says in the article not many teams will be able to offer him that much more than us.. get a contract extension under his nose now then IF he does decide to go at least we can cream a decent profit from the deal.

As for Harry and the old bill.. I really hope he takes them to the cleaners but I think we might see an out of court settlement as clearly they were in the wrong to leek the story to the press - It's a disgrace.. and should Mr McKay turn out to be innocent he too should do the same ...
Chix
russellm, you missunderstood my post, I did not say "HR" should not take action. I just queried that his timing was wrong.
007
thats my one worry too 007, im all for 'arry fighting his case and like russellm i fully support him but the selfish side of me worries about the timing of it - much like yourself.
russ im becoming increasingly concerned by your drinking habits... in as much as im still waiting for my share of this :-)
pompeyrug
as for krunchie, his lack of pace will rule him out of most top sides - at least for the time being, no one else can offer him what we can in that case so he should stay, and i feel he will. he 'loves' the club and cannot talk about it enough, he's always of croatian tv praising portsmouth football club and 'arry, selling both to the world/
when he arrived last year he was out of shape and out of fitness, he has worked hard on this and i think this has improved dramtatically this season.
pompeyrug
he will stay, he said that for croatian newspapers...he need one more good season for port.
andycroat28
Yeah he'll be with us for one more year I feel. He's a very, very good player and will play for one of Europe's top sides soon…which could be us! Ha ha.
stillthewhizz
one of europes top sides...well, if you follow our progress up the leauge the past few seasons...that WILL be us...NEXT YEAR!
pompeycarpet
????? Needs to work on his sprinting ???? Needs to lose some pounds ??? 1. Niko is faster than Fabregas and stronger and taller !!! 2. Niko has less pounds than Superstar Frank Lampard guys just look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-9GUXEzy7Q
Kranjcar19
Kranjcar19. Niko does not posess fantastic pace. This will stop a top, top club coming in for him. I dont agree he's carrying too much weight, I think he's trimmed a lot this year.
pompey4me
pompey4me OK then basically what you say that Arsenal is not a TOP,TOP CLUB because i bet in 1000$ that Kranjcar is faster then Fabregas btw croatian media and even dad of Niko said that Niko is leaving at the end of season for sure the most interest in signing Niko showed Arsenal but in case of pace Niko is not a winger he is attacking middlefielder so he is fast for a attacking middlefielder...
Kranjcar19
But, Niko dont play the same position as Cesc.
pompey4me
Kranjcar19 im confused as andycroat28 says that the croatian media are saying that kranjcar will stay, yet you say they are saying he will 'for sure' leave?
pompeyrug
I am from Croatia and i quote what Niko's dad said "Niko will leave Portsmouth at the end of season he already have 2-3 offers from TOP clubs.... the most interest in Niko showed Aresenal" even english media said that Arsenal is interested in Niko http://www.fansfc.com/frontpage/frontpagenews.asp?newsid=183916 OK pompey4me he plays more like behind two strikers but still. :) I would like for Niko to stay but i heard that Pompey is in big debts and without stadium for at least 40 000 seats you can't go forward you will always be in negative balance.
Kranjcar19
Not sure about your last slice of info but the Arsenal link has been heard before. Fine we'll take £20m for Niko & he can go. We'll buy another diamond to replace him if it happens.
