O'Neil has no Pompey regrets...

O'Neil has no Pompey regrets...

...and at the end of the day why should Gary O'Neil have any regrets about leaving Pompey? When all is said and done we sold him - he was not actively looking for a move away was he!

O'Neil was reflecting on Pompey being in the FA cup final and his first season with Boro when telling the Boro Site: 'obviously I still have a lot of friends down there and I want them top go on and win the cup, but for me it was good to get a change and get some new surroundings.

'I've enjoyed my first season.

'We're not as far up the league as we would have liked, but we have had a couple of decent spells and if we can make those spells longer next year we will get higher up the league'.

I dare say that in all honesty in an ideal world he would have rather stayed here but as said he should not have any regrets as he was sold, the fella did not want to leave but once the club accepted the offer - as they did - their was no turning back.

My own thinking is that out of all the players to go he is the one that we have missed the most but all parties have now moved on...

Still wish he was part of the squad. His crossing from the right & non stop running would have complimented the team. However, we all move on & he is well remembered.

Let's hope his gamesmanship improves next time. The game at FP left a sour taste. Perhaps it's because we lost and shouldn't have.

o'neil was a great servant for us maybe we should take him back because of his crossing and non stop running unlike utaka who does none of this !

if utaka started non-stop running, he would be one of the best players in the premiership! loosing o'neil has prooved to be a big loss, as we have ended up with diop out on the right, which is just ridiculas! boro seem to have a good young squad, and a competant striker - so they will probably do well for a couple of years to come though...so its not all bad for him!

GON, would have served us better than Utaka, and we would have about £2 million left over. I believe "HR" realises his mistake. You cannot replace 100% effort with lethargy.

Sorry carps...give me GON anyday, I witnessed Utakas greatest moment in a Pompey shirt, scoring against Bolton. GON had countless more than that in his years in unrelenting service to this club...I'd rather have GON than both Papa smurf and Utaka

Think Gary O would have fitted in nicely this year, playing on the right, Think him and Johnson would have linked up well, Unlike.....arrrrrgh, dont get me started! lol

Although he has gone and I have gotten over it (just) I still think that we have yet to replace his crossing, his 'run till my legs drop off' attitude and his 'die for the cause' commitment. Truly a great servant to the club and one which has yet to be replaced... Have we missed Matty, Benji, Stef.... Probably not, but can we really say that about GON.... I for one think not

Match highlights - Hartlepool 0-2 Pompey

The slim chances of a top 3 finish ended, despite a win at Hartlepool. Wins for Accrington, Oxford and Bristol Rovers meant Pompey cannot finish higher than our current 5th place.
