'If It's Football, It's Vital'

James on his PFA nomination

David James has spoken to The News about his 'delight' at being nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award, even if he did admit that it is not something he usually takes much interest in: 'I was delighted. I have to say I have always considered the PFA awards as something I've not been too interested in.

'But now I've been nominated, it's the best award anybody can be voted for!

'To be considered alongside the likes of Ronaldo is a tremendous feat and as much as it is an individual nomination, I genuinely think it is a result of what is happening at Portsmouth Football Club'.

As always James was being very modest as he had been when previously talking about the role he has played in our moves forward in recent years since his signing. As Chix pointed out earlier we owe so much to him for this progression - yet he plays down his role.

One thing that I do hope we do not see again is that bloody cap that he wore at the weekend to shield his eyes from the sun - it seemed several times too small for his head, but that was probably because of his Afro, which itself probably made some difference in his 2nd half safe from Michael Owen!

Good job he wasn't in slick-back mode. The cap would have fitted and we'd have lost.

It was the first time I have seen keepers in caps at the Park for ages. No don't ask me when!!
eastneydave
He deserves it! He has been great all season imo.
Fan of Blues

Good to see Jamo getting some deserved recognition..obviously Ronaldo will win, but Jamo certainly belongs on the shortlist after a fantastic season!
Tantona
ronaldo will win - deservidly so - but to not only be the only keeper for god knows how long - AND be the only player outside a top 4 club is truly remarkable!
pompeycarpet
Has a Pompey player ever been nominated for this before? He so deserves this nomination - Superman.
tracyc
tracy a Pompey player has never been nominated for anything!! :-)
eastneydave
Top man, deserves all the quality awards & recognition going. Hopefully it will also shut a few up.

I think Jamo is great. He managed to laugh at himself when he tried to boot the ball last week and missed it. And you always get a little wave from him after the match. Speaks volumes about the man as well as the player.
