Jamo nominated for PFA award

David James has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award, and in doing so has surely already cemented his place as the goalkeeper in the end of season PFA Team of the Year.

It is very rare for a keeper to make this final shortlist of 6 - which also includes reigning Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo, Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres - but James has managed this, and deservingly so.

I think this is the least that James deserves for his performances, and high level consistency over the season, in fact the past couple of seasons so it would cap what has been a fantastic season for Pompey and him personally if he could walk away with the award - but merely being nominated itself is a real honour.

Richard Hughes had previously said that if James was not voted as the keeper in the PFA Team of the Year then he would no longer vote in the end of season awards - how he could not now become this keeper would be beyond me...

Congratulations to James, a true honour that all his years of service and commitment to the game deserve. Those that still use the 'calamity' tag against him know where they can shove it don't they!

On the topic of awards, also nominated for one is Lassana Diarra. He is up for the Player of the Round gong for the FA cup semi finals.

And richly deserved it is to. England's and the Premiership's finest
pentonpompey
Thinking about it, I quite honestly would not swop him for ANY other keeper in the Premiership, Regardless.

Here, here. A true reflection of our success.

This is FANTASTIC news for the club, the fans and most of all Jamo. He has worked so hard over two years and truly deserves it. Of course Ronaldo will win but to be nominated is just a fantastic achievement!!
eastneydave
He deserves it. He has been in good form for you this season.

cant think of a better keeper! all the others are too injury prone, too unreliable, dont come out for crosses enough, and arnt good enough shot stoppers. surely, he must be going for the best goal keeper in the world, not just the premiership?!?
pompeycarpet
i could only repeat what i said above, so i will merely echo the thoughts people have shared.
i reckon the only keeper that can rival jamo for that spot in the PFA team of the year - as i told pompey4me on the way to wembley - is brad friedel... yet another brushed aside by liverpool but look what they've missed out on with both!

He doesn't hide, he doesn't sulk, he just does the business week in week out. A fabulous role model for my kids.

hasnt got a chance in hell of getting it, i am afraid Ronaldo will score that one, but great for him all the same, top class recognition for our "hollywood goalkeeper"
russellm
oh yeah, ronaldo has already won it - and quite rightly - but for jamo to be there - the only player from a non top 4 team - AND a goalkeeper is truly remarkable...i think we are coming to an age where goalkeepers are finaly recognised as good players too (the "record" for a goalkeeper has recently risen to a...MASSIVE 9 million (hasnt it?)
pompeycarpet
Carpet, keepers where revered in Shilton, Banks and Zoff's day too
ChrisW
Have to echo what chris said earlier, an absoloutely fantastic role model for my kids. Fantastic, engaging man to talk to, lets hope his is ours, and Englands goal keeper in the 2010 world cup.
