Redknapp on transfer targets

Redknapp on transfer targets

Harry Redknapp has admitted an interest to The News in reported transfer targets John Mensah and Peter Crouch.

Ghanaian defender Mensah seems likely to leaves Rennes in the summer and a rumoured destination for some time has been Fratton Park - with the player himself expressing a liking to play for us and Redknapp has admitted an interest, but he also knows others will be interested too: 'I like him. I've watched him quite a bit, but I think there are a few other clubs interested in him.

'I've been watching quite a lot of players for next season.

'He's one of those players to look at'.

We are short of central defenders, so if the price is right he would not be a bad signing at all if you ask me. It is not known though if he would be a replacement for Sol Campbell or extra competition - should he sign of course…

As for Crouch it is no secret that Redknapp is a long term admirer of the England man, he has repeatedly said he would welcome him back to the club and if Liverpool do decide to sell then he will be looking to snap him up: 'there will be plenty of takers for Crouchie if he becomes available.

'He's a good player.

'But I do like him. If Liverpool decided to sell him there would be plenty of clubs in for him'.

As said earlier in the week I do think he will leave Liverpool and would not be at all surprised to see him come back to play for us again.

We will no doubt be linked to plenty of players in the coming months, but at this point in time this pair appear to be heading the shopping list…

I settle for either or both. Win the FA Cup & everybody will know how we are, if they havn't already. We won't be considered the 'little' club as seen 3-4 years ago. We can be a bit picky on who we want.

id "settle" for both... but when youlook at our central defenders, we've got cranie, linvoy and pamerot who play there - but they are all injurred/coming back from injury, and herman hriderson also plays well there. still, mensah sounds good - and if we make europe, then we will need someone to come in for the aging sol and linvoy.

without doubt we need another central defender even if sol stays, linvoy gets a new deal and the return to full fitness of paramount and cranie - im not sure paramount will stay tho? hopefully he will tho...
crouchy and henry coming in would not be half bad would it :-)

i like the sound of mensah, but this is another african, which might cause us problems in 18 months time again, but apart from that he sounds very good, very strong. with crouchy, id prefer us to look at other long term targets such as farfan, but still, id prefer us to spend 5m on crouch than baros, if that makes sense?

Bring em all in I say. We will need a big squad if we are in Europe and want to give the Carling Cup a good go to. A few will want to move on no doubt but refresh the squad and a bring in a couple of big names too is what the fans want.

On Sky Sports news this morning, Ronaldinio will probably be leaving Barcelona this year for a growing premiership club , not one of the 'big four' aparently Man City and Spurs may be interested, I hope we are as well to be honest

Mensah is a good player and so is Crouch. I would say go for them both. Winning the FA Cup will help you attract good players, so good luck!

Ronaldinho is heavily linked with Sven at City, as for our poll, I can confirm that Lenny Henry has been seen at Port Solent with Harry and is looking forward to signing

Henry & Defoe. Not there's a thought. You may be right paultsmouth, more likely to be Lenny Henry.

Evans - Right back or right midfield?

Drew Talbot and Adam Buxton are fit but Gareth Evans continues to fill in at right back. Should this change? If so where would it leave the battle between Evans and Carl Baker?
