'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Redknapp on another Pompey win

Harry Redknapp told sky sports last night that he thought we were 'fantastic' against West Ham, and 'played some great stuff' in our 1-0 win, with it thought that some of our football at times was the best that we have played in some weeks: 'we were fantastic again tonight, we played some great stuff. We passed the ball well and showed a lot of character. We made a couple of changes and the lads who came in did a great job.

'To come back after a cup semi final and play like that shows a lot of character'.

On the match winner Niko Kranjcar, who scored a cracking 25-yard winner early in the 2nd half Redknapp said: 'Niko can score, he has great ability and he has been fantastic all season for us.

'He pops up and does things a bit special. He's got great ability and fantastic skill'.

Injury to Milan Baros and the absence of Jermain Defoe opened the door for Dave Nugent to have a rare start, and although it was a shame that his tireless effort as the lone striker could not be rewarded with a goal the fella did not do his future chances with Pompey any harm at all, and Redknapp - who applauded him off along with the fans and gave him a good pat on the back when he was substituted - had praise for him too: 'David also worked hard tonight and I thought led the line well.

'He played up front on his own covered every blade of grass and put their centre halves under pressure all night.

'So we're delighted with David's performance - he needed a run out and tonight he did himself a lot of good'.

All in all I think it was a job well done, everyone put in a professional performance and got the job done, it was a good team effort. I am especially delighted for Nugent, it is just a shame that he could not get that goal that his effort deserved. I could still see a partnership alongside Defoe work so maybe we will see this at the weekend?

The season just goes from great to even greater. Nine away wins, can we make double figures?

I think the odds are in our favour to do just that

i reckon i will be at the game when it happens...citeh away in a few weeks time, hopefully we'll make it 11 when im also at boro a few weeks after that!
just think if we could have turned some of those home draws into home wins - we would be chasing 4th by now... lets just hope that next season we can keep this away form going and really push on at home, we would have an incredible season if we can.

just think...the penalties against liverpool and west ham. if only they had gone in... all the same, nugent and mvuemba both had great games, which was nice to see.

I don't really like looking at 'if's' and 'but's', in this case though, a couple of missed penalties in games we drew 0-0 could have seen us as Rug says right up in the hunt for fourth. I cannot honestly believe how well this season has gone so far (touch wood) and I really hope we can maintain it next season as well. Does anyone else agree with me now about West Ham and Curbishly disease?

Happy days, keep them coming.

nope, i dont agree sneakey - they have had loads of injuries, and considering where they were last season... infact, they seem to be a carbon copy of pompey- just a year too late (bet they finish 9th)

I thought there captain summed it up when he bottled a tackle against Pedro,... i mean the softest guy on the pitch that shows season over syndrome, but hey who cares , hopefully Boro and the rest of the opposition will have the same, I think the upcoming game against the geordies with a resurgent Owen, Martins and Viduka is the toughest fixture left, beat them on saturday and i will be placing a bet for 4th place
